Community Preservation Committee Minutes

November 16, 2006

Attending: Joel Adler, Norman Cohen, Marilyn Fenollosa, Wendy Manz,
Leo McSweeney, Richard Pagett, Sandy Shaw, Betsey Weiss, Richard Wolk

The meeting was called to order at 5:05 p.m.

The meeting was devoted to hearing the presentation of the projects submitted for the Annual
Town Meeting next spring.

Center Playfield Drainage Improvements
This project was presented by David Pinsonneault of the DPW. The request is for $90,000.00.
He said that there has been a drainage problem since 1940 and the requested study by an
engineer would define the problem and suggest corrective action that the Town might take in
future years. He said the Conservation Commission would be involved in the project.

Munroe and Ye Olde Burial Grounds
This project was presented by David Pinsonneault of the DPW, David Kelland, Chair of the
Historical Commission, and Susan Bennett, Executive Director of the Lexington Historical
Society. The request is for $159,000.00. Dave said the Town had hired a conservator who
outlined a project for the preservation of historic markers at Ye Olde Burying Ground and the
Munroe Cemetery. Dave said that the markers are damaged by the natural aging process, due
mostly to our weather conditions. The reasons for this project are to preserve a very valuable
asset of our Town and for the safety of those who visit the cemeteries. He stated that the
proponents will seek whatever grants may be available.

Steel Lintels at Cary Hall
This project was presented by Dave Canon, Assistant Town Engineer. The request is for
$14,200.00. It is for the rehabilitation and replacement of steel lintels at Cary Hall. There are 15
steel lintels to be removed, sandblasted and installed. There will be some masonry work to blend
lintel work with the existing exterior.

Fire Monitoring System
This project was presented by Susan Bennett. It is to improve fire monitoring systems at
Buckman Tavern, Munroe Tavern and the Hancock-Clarke House. The new wireless system
will be done working with the Lexington Fire Department. The request is for $18,120.00. Susan
said there is a great need for this updated system.

Buckman Tavern Boiler
This project was presented by Susan Bennett. It is for a new oil burner and oil take at the
Buckman Tavern. The present boiler is 30 years old and the tank is in the ground. There will be
a new boiler and tank. The old tank will be removed from its present location. The request is for
$14,000.00

Ms. Weiss suggested that Susan Bennett update the committee on her meeting with the
Appropriations Committee. Susan, Betsey and David Wells had met with the Appropriation
