<br />Lexington Tree Committee <br />Town of Lexington, Massachusetts <br />201 Bedford Street, Samuel Hadley Public Services Building, Room 125 <br />Minutes, Meeting of June 8, 2017 <br />Attendees: Jewel Kuljian, Karen Longeteig, Nancy Sofen, Gerry Paul, Anne Senning, James <br />Wood, John Frey (Chairman). Gerry Paul took his turn as scribe. <br />1. Approved last month's meeting minutes. <br />2. Tree removal activity – postponed. <br />3. Tree Management Manual update. Anne Senning presented the changes in the manual for <br />the Tree Bylaw. The Tree Committee voted to approve the changes and agreed that the name <br />of the manual would be unchanged since it is referenced in the Bylaw. <br />4. Spring tree planting status - postponed. <br />5. Selectmen's Annual Goal Setting - Based on the original list created by Anne and John, we <br />drafted 3 goals that Anne will write up and will be attached to the minutes: <br />- ensuring inventory data is collected <br />- support/funding to educate citizens on the Asian Longhorn Beetle and Emerald Ash Borer <br />threats. <br />- development/support of a policy to identify tree planting locations and tree planting best <br />practices <br />6. In support of the last goal above, Gerry will lead a subcommittee of Jim, Nancy, and Karen <br />(when available) to start work on the policy <br />7. Sidewalk reconstruction on Mass Ave between Fottler and Bow. We voted to send a letter to <br />the Town Highway Superintendent offering to work with him to identify additional tree planting <br />locations. Gerry will draft the letter and see if the East Lexington Civic Association want to <br />participate also. <br />8. Jim reported on options for preventing soil compaction after tree planting. He explained that <br />Silva cells, structural soil, and tree irrigation systems have significant drawbacks. He will <br />investigate the use of plastic tree grates. <br />Next regular meeting: July 13, 7:30 a.m. at DPW. <br />
