<br />Lexington Human Rights Committee <br />Meeting Minutes March 3, 2017 <br />Present: Sean Osborn, Judy Crocker, Bonnie Brodner, Al Zabin, Fuang-Ying Huang, <br />Pastor Brent Maracle, Bhumip Khasnabish, Norm Cohen, Lieutenant Jim Barry, Koren <br />Stembridge, Jerry Toronto, Mary Anton, Charlotte Rogers, Kristie Demirev <br />Guests: Stephanie Hsu, Tanya Gisolh, Mabel Amar, <br />Departments Updates: <br />Schools: <br />-Implementing Culture Competent Teaching (Lex Learn), teachers are trained in <br />unconscious training, English Learners among other subjects. <br />-Working with Police Dept in reporting racial incident and hate crime. <br />-Commit to all-inclusive schools. <br />Cary Memorial Library <br /> Hosting workshop for parents-Lexington Parent Academy 3.0 on Saturday, March <br />25 at Lexington Community Center. Subjects include Cyber Safety, Relationship, <br />Depression, Addiction, and more. <br />Human Services Report <br />-Lexington Parent Academy 3.0 Saturday, March 25, 2017 9:30-2:30pm <br />-They are cross training all staff so they can support each other <br />-Most people come to Human Services for help with financial difficulties living in <br />Lexington <br />-They work with the large Veterans community here there is housing at 65 <br />Bedford Green (homeless veterans) <br />- about the Opioid Epidemic April 6 short <br />film followed by panel presentation working in collaboration with the schools <br />and will be screening there <br />-Also, they are working on letting people know they are there and that there is a <br />tax exemption for seniors <br />-The letter for Lexington resident needs to be given to Kristy for delivery <br />LICA LICA contribute $1500 to sponsor the Active Bystander Training working on <br />advertising and getting people signed up in order to become a trainer, you must attend <br />both the 2-hour training and the 7-hour training <br />-Want to make sure to get HS students to attend so they can become trainers for <br />the Middle School recommended talking to the SADD Club Julie Fen <br />-Also, there is a White Privilege Series at Pilgrim/Hancock <br />-Stand for Racial Justice and Against Racism, March 30 <br /> <br />
