2013 Minuteman Cane Award Committee Meeting <br />Friday, March 21, 2013 <br />1 PM in Town Hall. Room 111 <br />The meeting was called to order at 1:05 PM. Those present were Dot Boggia, Chairman, <br />Leo McSweeney, Marie Hill, Sheldon Spector, Dick Michelson, Charlie Price, Aim <br />Webster, Dan Fenn, Aurio Pierro, David Williams and Beverly Kelley. All committee <br />members were present. <br />This is the second of two meetings this year. <br />Sheldon Spector, an original board member, is retiring and moving away. We thank <br />Sheldon for 26 years of dedicated service. Dot Boggia is retiring as chairman but is <br />willing to stay on as vice-chairman. We thank Dot for her 16 years as chairman. <br />The recipient of the cane will be announced prior to Town Meeting on Wednesday, April <br />10, 2013 along with the recipients of the White Tricorn Hat and the Youth Award. The <br />recipient will then be honored in the Patriot's Day parade on Sunday, April 14. The party <br />honoring all 3 award recipients will be held on Sunday, April 21 at the Depot. <br />We discussed the lack of nominees this year. We decided to expand our outreach by <br />targetin2 all the churches, the 3 Lexington housing complexes, Brookhaven, Cary Library <br />and any other places we think would help. <br />David Williams nominated Marie Hill to be chairman, following the resignation of Dot <br />Boggia. Sheldon Spector seconded the motion and it was unanimously approved. <br />Beverly Kelley said she is willing to stay on as secretary. <br />Discussion of this year's nominees began at 1:20 and was done in alphabetical order - <br />Phyllis Rand, Eleanor Smith and E.O. Wilson. We had a spirited and lively discussion <br />for about 20 minutes, ending at 1:40. We then wrote our choices down and handed them <br />to our chairman who then handed them to Sheldon and Marie who left the room to tally <br />the results. The 2013 recipient of the Minuteman Cane Award was Eleanor Smith. The <br />first runner-up was Phyllis Rand followed by E.O.
