<br />Lexington Human Rights Committee <br />Meeting Minutes <br />May 1, 2015 <br />Present <br />: Al Zabin, Linda Vine, Bonnie Brodner, Aidan Evelyn, Sean Osborne, Fuang- <br />Ying Huang, Norman Cohen, Melissa Buttaro, Bhumip Khasnabish, Judy Crocker, <br />Michael McLean, Jeffrey Toronto, Charlotte Rogers and Kristie Demirev. <br />Meeting held in the Parker Room – Town Hall at 8:00 a.m. <br />The committee welcome new member, Mr. Jeffrey Toronto and elected Sean Osborne as <br />the new chair and Bhumip Khasnabish as the vice chair. Fuang-Ying will continue to <br />serve as the clerk. <br />Human Service had hired Ms. Kristie Demirev as the new Youth and Family Service <br />Social Worker. <br />Sean reports on the incident response procedures. And, the following suggestions are to <br />be incorporated into incident response protocol: <br />Internal review and process review after each incident response. <br />Fact finding as part of the investigation, ie. what, where and why. <br />Determine if any town authority/dept. should be notified and/or to handle the <br />incident before the investigation starts. <br />Training of HRC members on incident response, and be mobilized when needed <br />The investigating/fact finding team should not be more than two members as not <br />to overwhelming the victim under such stressful circumstance. <br />Document/compile incidents whether it’s handled by HRC or not, to have a <br />complete report on human rights violations in Lexington. <br />Next Steps: <br />Identify training program for IRT members. <br />Linda, Kristie, Charlotte and Jeffrey volunteered to draft the fact intake form. <br />Bonnie to recruit members to develop outreach program. <br />Publicize HRC, many Lexington residents still not aware of HRC. <br />Bonnie reported on a “Town Wide Conversation about Race” sponsored by the Lexington <br />Interfaith Clergy Association (LICA) that she attended on 4/30. <br />Attendees would like more venues to discuss issues around Race <br />Bonnie will follow up with LICA to discuss having another conversation, possibly <br />coordinated together with LHRC and LICA. <br />The meeting adjourned at 9:40AM. <br />The next meeting is on June 5, 2015 at 8:00AM at Selectman’s Meeting Room. <br /> <br />
