<br />Lexington Human Rights Committee <br />Meeting Minutes <br />April 1, 2016 <br />Present <br />: Judy Crocker, Officer Aidan Evelyn, Norman Cohen, Mary Barry-Ng, Sean <br />Osborne,Linda Vine, Bonnie Brodner, Kristie Demirev, Fuang-Ying <br />Bhumip Khasnabish, <br />Huang, and Pastor Brent Maracle <br />Meeting held at Lexington Community Center, Room 237 at 8:00 a.m. <br />Committee welcomed its new member, Mary B Barry-NG, head of Lexington Middle <br />School Social Studies Dept. <br />Committee voted four books for selection by the library for the fall 2016 program. Once <br />the library chooses a book, the committee will invite a facilitator for book discussion. <br />The books are (in order of preference): <br />1.Common Ground by J. Anthony Lukas <br />2.The Good Earth by Pearl Buck <br />3.Just Mercy by Bryan Stevenson <br />4.The Shot and Tragic Life of Robert Peace by Jeff Hobbs <br />Committee Training by Kristie Demirev is set for June meeting. <br />Committee members are encouraged to join the Patriots’ Day parade. <br />Department Reports: <br />Human Service Dept. <br />1.200 people came to the Parenting Program on March 19. <br />2.Next Tuesday’s program is for elementary school parents. <br />3.Due to the warm winter, only 40 families applied for fuel assistant so far. <br />The program ends in April. <br />School Dept. <br />1.A six-weekly Cultural Proficiency Class at Clarke Middle School <br />th <br />facilitates by Sean Osborne starts on April 29. <br />2.Middle Schools are to re-introduce book club. <br />No incident report from Police Dept. <br />The next meeting is on May 6, 2016 at 8:00AM at Lexington Community Center, Room <br />237. <br />Meeting adjourned at 9:00 am <br />
