<br />Lexington Human Rights Committee <br />Meeting Minutes <br />March 4, 2016 <br />Present <br />: Judy Crocker, Officer Aidan Evelyn, Koren Stembridge, Charlotte Rogers, Sean <br />Osborne, Linda Vine, Bonnie Brodner, Kristie Demirev, Fuang-Ying Huang, and Pastor <br />Brent Maracle <br />Guest: <br />Koren Stembridge, Cary Memorial Library Director <br />Meeting held at Lexington Community Center, Room 237 at 8:00 a.m. <br />Old Business: <br />th <br />HRC is approved to participate in the Patriates Day parade on April 18. <br />Members are encouraged to recruit others to join in the parade. <br />WIN program lead by Clarke teacher Danielle Paddols is recruiting volunteers to <br />facilitate discussions in culture efficiency. <br />Conflict resolution/defusing training by Aidan Evelyn and Kristie Demirev next <br />meeting. <br />New Initiatives to promote culture and religious diversity in Lexington: <br />Collaborate with Cary Library in the eight-week discussion on culture and <br />religions. <br />HRC members are to bring a book idea/recommendation to the next meeting and <br />propose then we will discuss possible facilitators to help us sponsor a fall 2016 <br />program. <br />Collaborate with LICA on “Open Door” program planned for the spring of 2017 <br />which allows participating faith organizations to open their doors to others with <br />the goal of learning about a variety of faith communities. <br />Library Initiatives: <br />“Check out a Person” program at the library that resident can check out a <br />volunteer in different religions/culture background to discuss/ask questions <br />freely. <br />“Idea Wall” in the library displaying photos by residents to show demographic <br />diversity in Lexington. <br />Department Reports: <br />Human Service Dept. hosts family nights with games, arts and crafts, and movies. <br />th <br />Next family movie night is Friday, March 11. This new program is growing in <br />popularity at the Community Center. <br />Parenting Program will take place at the Community Center on Saturday, March <br />th <br />19. The response has been tremendous to this program which again is a <br />relatively new offering to the community. <br /> <br />
