<br />Lexington Human Rights Committee <br />Meeting Minutes <br />November 6, 2015 <br />Present <br />: Al Zabin, Linda Vine, Aidan Evelyn, Jim Barry, Sean Osborne, Fuang-Ying Huang, <br />Norman Cohen – BOS liaison, Bhumip Khasnabish, Jeffrey Toronto, Charlotte Rogers, Kristie <br />Demirev, and Pastor Brent Maracle <br />Meeting held at Lexington Community Center, Room 237 at 8:00 a.m. <br />Department Updates Human Services, Police, Schools: <br />Human Service Department program seasonal program updates: <br />Fuel Assistance program has started accepting applications; those who are eligible for the <br />program are also eligible for the water/sewer discount, <br />Sand Project for seniors will be offered again with the help of the Rotary Club, <br />Thanksgiving Dinner for seniors sponsored by Lions’ Club, <br />Christmas meals sponsored by the Temples <br />Assorted Gift cards for families with children. <br />Other Updates include: <br />Mental health issues continued to be a concern from the staff and schools perspective. <br />Alcohol and drug use by Lexington students although higher than the state average, have <br />begun to decline over the last year. <br />No incidents reported from Police Department <br /> – <br />Lexington Public School is seeking a volunteer liaison to HRCLinda reached out to the <br />department and hopes to have a name submitted to the BOS for appointment. <br />Sean reported on Clarke teacher Danielle Paddles progress on her WIN (What I need) program. <br />For Culture Proficiency program, <br />Task - Danielle will send a syllabus and meet with HRC in Dec. 2015 and to start the program in <br />Jan of 2016. <br />HRC discussed outreach and how to coordinate with other groups in town with similar interest, <br />such as Veteran’s Day, MLK Day, Patriots’ Day and Memorial Day parades. <br />HRC will hand distribute flyers and, or bookmarks at various town activities to outreach and <br />promote the Committee and its mission. <br />Task - Linda, Jeffrey, Charlotte and Kristie are to work on the content of the HRC flyer <br />Task - Sean will work on the bookmark. <br />The HRC then discussed options for developing a 2016 work-plan. Linda was asked to invite <br />Koren Stembridge, Cary Memorial Library Director to an upcoming meeting in order to explore <br />different partnerships. <br /> <br />
