<br />Town Celebrations Committee <br />Minutes of Meeting <br />November 16, 2016 <br />Cotton Room, Cary Hall <br />Members Present <br />Lorain Marquis, Chair; June Baer, Kim Coburn, Dick Crogan, Linda Dixon, Carol Flynn, Karen <br />Gaughan, Mary Hutton, Julie Miller, Wayne Miller, Bill Mix, Geetha Padaki, Sandy Podgorski. <br />Members not present <br />Glen Bassett, Suzanne Caton, Cerise Jalelian, Paul Jenkins, Linda Levitt, Sondra Lucente, Rich <br />McDonough, Henry Murphy, Dave Taylor, Bob Tracey, Sam Zales <br />Business <br />The Chair declared that a quorum was present. <br />The minutes of November 2, 2016 were approved with minor corrections. <br />The next meeting is Wednesday, November 30, 2016 in the Parker Room, Town Office Building. <br />Lorain will ask Sam Zales to attend a November or December meeting to discuss volunteer needs <br />and preliminary plans for Martin Luther King Day. <br />The group decided to cancel the meeting scheduled for December 14, 2016. <br />Dates to remember: <br />Holiday party Wednesday, December 7, 6:30 p.m. at Linda Dixon’s <br />o <br />Martin Luther King Day Monday, January 16, 2017 <br />o <br />Patriots Day Monday, April 17, 2017 <br />o <br />Memorial Day Monday, May 29, 2017 <br />o <br />Veterans Day Saturday, November 11, 2017 <br />o <br />Feedback/Discussion on Veterans’ Day Program <br />Regarding some initial concern whether a shortened parade would negatively effect the overall <br />Veterans Day program, two positive outcomes put these concerns to rest: 1) the number of citizens <br />attracted by the parade who followed it all the way into Cary Hall, thus contributing to the large <br />audience; and 2) the inspiring effect on the youth, primarily Scouts, who turned out in large <br />numbers and enjoyed the experience. <br />The indoor ceremony attracted the largest audience in recent history. This was attributed to: 1) the <br />50th commemoration of the Vietnam War theme; 2) the extensive publicity and news coverage; <br />and 3) the personal outreach efforts to individual veterans. <br />The slideshow added a great deal to the program. In future years, this can be shown before the <br />program begins. <br />It was disappointing that LexMedia didn’t show up. <br />Next year, we can add more ushers to speed up the seating. <br />We’ll keep the program to within sixty minutes. <br />We’ll work to have the program ready several days earlier so we can print it at the Town printing <br />facility vs. Wales Copy. <br />Lorain thanked everyone for their great teamwork, with special thanks to Linda, Sandy and Kim. <br /> <br />
