<br />TOWN OF LEXINGTON, MASSACHUSETTS <br />CONSERVATION COMMISSION <br />MINUTES <br />Tuesday October 4, 2016 <br /> 6:30 P.M. <br />Parker Room, Town Office Building <br />1625 Massachusetts Ave <br />Chair Phil Hamilton opened the meeting at 6:30pm in the Parker Room of the Town Office <br />Building <br />Commissioners Present: Kevin Beuttell, Dick Wolk, David Langseth, Phil Hamilton, Alex <br />Dohan <br />Others present: Karen Mullins, Conservation Administrator and Casey Hagerty, Conservation <br />Department Assistant <br />6:30pm <br />Juliana Winters: Save the Trees, Girl Scout Gold Award Project: Long-term management of <br />Asiatic bittersweet along the Dunback Meadow Allen St. frontage <br />Ms. Winters explained her Gold Award Proposal to the Commission. The project involves <br />removing bittersweet from the entrance to Dunback Meadow. This project would take place <br />sometime in the spring. In addition to removing the bittersweet, she would also create a video <br />about how to remove the bittersweet so that in the future other girl scouts can lead the same <br />project. She added that homeowners will also be able to view the video and learn how to remove <br />bittersweet from their properties. <br />Questions and comments from the commission: <br />The commission asked if she was working with the DPW to arrange for removal of the <br />bittersweet. Ms. Winters explained that Jordan McCarron is coordinating with the DPW. <br />The commission asked how she will be trained in removing bittersweet as well as organizing <br />volunteers. Ms. Winters told the commission she will be attending “Stewardship Saturdays” with <br />the Conservation Stewards to learn both things. <br />The commission expressed their support for this project and explained that there is a need for it <br />in the community. <br />Motion to support this project made by Mrs. Dohan and seconded by Mr. Langseth. Vote: 5-0 in <br />favor. <br />6:37pm <br /> <br />
