Lexington Tree Committee Minutes <br />May 12, 2016 <br />The Lexington Tree Committee met May 12, 2016 at the Samuel Hadley Public Services <br />Building, 201 Bedford Street, Room 125, Lexington, MA 02420 from 7:30 to 9:00 am. <br />Members Present: John Frey (Chair), Nancy Sofen, Jewel Kuljian, Anne Senning, Karen <br />Longeteig, Jim Wood. <br />Members Absent: Gerry Paul. <br />Liaisons Absent: Chris Filadoro(Superintendent of Public Grounds), Suzie Barry(Selectman <br />liaison), Ginna Johnson (Planning Board). <br />The meeting addressed the following items: <br />1. Jim Wood was appointed as scribe. The minutes of April 14, 2016 were approved as <br />modified. <br />2. By -Law tree removal and applications: Chris F. said that eight sites have been closed <br />out. <br />3. The Lexington Minuteman has run the setback /street tree article twice. Twenty -four <br />trees have been placed to date. <br />4. Tree inventory process: Due to the cost amount, an RFQ needs to be issued. The <br />RFQ package will be issued in the next two weeks. <br />5. Status of Tree Removals on the following streets: <br />11 Bryon Ave. -No trees in the setback are to be removed. Trees removed are for the <br />water line and the Town is hoping for an easement to Maple Street. Trees cut down <br />were not in the setback area and many were under 6" caliper. Other trees were <br />removed for the sidewalk project. <br />11 Brent Rd. -No bylaw issue; setback trees are being removed. <br />6 Augustus Rd. -No information yet. <br />6. Visitor Center Replacement: General discussion was held. A motion was made to use <br />the 5" London Plane Tree located at Select Horticulture for the Visitors Center. Vote <br />was 5 to 1 in favor with the dissenting vote being in favor of an Oak. <br />7. Planting Trees on Unaccepted Streets: The process recommended by the Tree <br />Warden and concurred by the Tree Committee was to plant setback trees only, 20 <br />feet from the edge of the pavement. A corner lot would follow accepted street rules. <br />8. Farmers Market: Placing tables under trees so vehicles could not drive close to the <br />trees was suggested. DPW will mark with white lines where vehicles can park. <br />9. Postpone agenda item on Commemorative Tree plaques maintenance. <br />10. Center Streetscape Design Review Ad Hoc Committee: John Frey has not received <br />any notification from the Selectmen. <br />11. Warrant Articles for Tree By -Law Changes: Gerry and Karen will meet the week of 17 <br />June to discuss. <br />12. Mass Ave Reconstruction in East Lexington: The issue is what trees are being <br />preserved and what/where trees are being planted as part of the street/sidewalk <br />construction. <br />13. Tree Planting on Mass Ave between Bloomfield St. and Percy Rd.: Postponed until <br />Gerry returns from vacation. <br />14. 32 Muzzey Street Trees /Colin Smith: John Frey suggested to Colin Smith that he <br />make a request under the street/setback tree program. <br />15.
