S MopN
a i
APRIL 19"' Town of Lexington Human Rights Committee
`Fx,r,°c`' Meeting Minutes for Wednesday, Oct 18, 2023
Conducted in remotely on Zoom
LHRC MEMBERS PRESENT
Christina Lin, Chair(CL); Stephanie Hsu,Vice-Chair(SH); Mona D. Roy(MDR);Amber Iqbal (Al);
Larry Freeman- Lexington Public School District (LF); Lieutenant Colleen Dunbar-Town of Lexington
Police (CD)
Guests: F.Jacobs, B.Dym and S.Vanevera
The minutes recorded by Christina Lin, LHRC Chair
A copy of the draft letter and also the finalized letter are in the addendum.
Several points of discussion arose in the editing process:
1. Acknowledgement of how people and religions are vulnerable to hateful
propaganda
2. Understanding that intergenerational trauma plays a role in the impact of this
conflict our community members, and that it is not only felt by those who are
directly connected either through religion or to the region.
3. The phrase "peace prevails" did not sit well for some members. They pointed
out that `peace' can be subjective and therefore peace for one group may not
mean peace for another. It was decided to rephrase to "seek peace" and
acknowledge that this is always a work in progress.
The final letter was approved by a vote of 6-o-o.
Meeting adjourned at 6:15pm
1625 MASSACHUSETTS AVENUE•LEXINGTON,MASSACHUSETTS 02420
