LEXINGTON DESIGN ADVISORY COMMITTEE
Minutes of Meeting of March 22016
,
A meeting of the Design Advisory Committee (DAC) was held on March 2, 2016 at 7:30 pm in the Hudson
Room in Cary Memorial Building, 1605 Massachusetts Avenue, Lexington Center. A quorum of five
attended.
Members Present:
Bruce Creager, Brigitte Steines, Richard Friedson, John Frey, Bahig Kaldas, Caroline
Fitzgerald, Tim Lee (Chair)
Members Absent:,
Alenka SlezakSteve Vincent
Approvals
: Minutes of the previous meeting were reviewed and approved.
The meeting reviewed the following item:
1.Presentation of Center Streetscape Project (surface treatments) – Mark & Lee Connor
DAC Comments
Generally the DAC members agreed that the presentation was well done and did a good
job explaining the history, context and issues.
The DAC agreed that the current design solutions although schematic require much
broader discuss to determine all viable, appropriate solutions for the pedestrian areas of
the project.
The DAC was concerned that if the 25% design was approved and went forward the current
design if implemented as is would set a precedent for future phases of the project.
The DAC was also concerned and question if the current design consultant is appropriate for the
streetscape aspect of the project.
DAC will discuss at our next meeting how we can become more engaged in the development of t
he design.
Public Comments (general tone, paraphrased)
Visually the combination of brick and concrete as presented is visually disturbing and can have a
adverse effect on some people with vision issues.
Most towns would kill to have what we have and a more holistic, thoughtful solution is needed.
Allowing the 25% to proceed without further development and installed 'as is' would not be just
a chipping away at our community aesthetic but more like a sledgehammer to it.
Other Business
:
1.Appointment – Center Streetscape Design Ad Hoc Committee
The committee discussed and agreed and voted unanimously to appoint Tim Lee & Richard Friedson to the
Ad Hoc Committee.
Respectfully submitted
Timothy Lee
Cc:
Board of Selectmen
