 AnoRMipC
o y.\:
K
1.x z A
Town of Lexington, Massachusetts
MONUMENTS & MEMORIALS COMMITTEE
Minutes of Meeting
Thursday, October 1, 2015 — 6:OOp.m.
Reed Room, Town Offices Building
Attendance
Sam Doran, Linda Dixon, Kathy Jacob, Bebe Fallick, Chris Filadoro, and Gina Rada, Suzie
Barry
Business
• Minutes from the July 23, 2015 Monuments and Memorials Committee Meeting were
approved
• A public hearing concerning the Minuteman Statue & Minute Men Memorial Restoration
took place on September 9, 2015. The planned restoration would involve a change in
visual color of the statue and monument, which currently appear green. The hearing
allowed for the public to provide input on their preference of color. Committee members
who were in attendance of the September 9th hearing felt that the majority of attendees
preferred the original bronze as opposed to the existing green. The current green color is
a result of Patina, a product of oxidation of bronze and copper.
• The committee discussed the illumination of the Flag at the Rajbhandary Memorial
Flagpole. Two residents had voiced their concern over improper illumination at this
specific site. The committee discussed options on how to correct this issue. In past
years, the flag has been typically taken down during the winter months. The committee
discussed the option of solar lights that could be easily installed as a potential solution.
Gina Rada will be following up with the residents to inform them that the committee is
actively working on a solution.
• In regards to the Somerset Road WWII Memorial, Chris Filadoro informed the
committee that trees will be planted. 3 trees have been planned to be planted at the V
where Somerset Road splits.
• Members of the committee have been actively adding Lexington monuments /memorials
to a new database.
• The next Monuments and Memorials Committee Meeting was scheduled for November
5, 2015 @ 6:OOp.m.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:10 p.m.
Submitted by
Gina M.
