talkilAt <br /> LEXINGTON HISTORICAL COMMISSION <br /> MINUTES SEPT. 14, 1988 <br /> Present: Gilman, Hagelstein, McKenna, Witthoft <br /> 0. Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approvaied. It is noted <br /> that the Preservation Awards were given out at the July 7, 1988, Band <br /> Concert. <br /> New Business. <br /> 1. Election of a chairman. Gilman nominated McKenna, Witthoft seconded, <br /> elected unanimously. Witthoft volunteered to take minutes wLS <br /> 2. The Chairman is directed to see the Town Manager (a) to obtain the <br /> address of the new commission member so that she can be notified of <br /> meetings. (b) to find out more about the appointment and reappointment <br /> process for the LHC; and (c) to register our complaint about the manner <br /> in which Mr. Roland Gubisch was dismissed from the Commission. <br /> 3. Witthoft is to draft a letter of thanks to Mr. Gubisch for his service <br /> to the commission and invite him to the next meeting in order to <br /> express our thanks in person. <br /> Old Business. <br /> 4. Allen-Swenson farmhouse: this house will be moved to the Kendall <br /> Ave--Grapevine Ave. location beginning Sept. 21. The move will take <br /> about two weeks. <br /> 5. Wood St. Barn: McKenna will consult with town counsel on legal <br /> issues and will request that no demolition order be issued until legal <br /> questions have been resolved, since the property has changed hands <br /> since the six months' demolition delay ordinance was invoked. McKenna <br /> reports she has spoken to the owner about possible solutions which <br /> would save the barn. <br /> New Business. <br /> 6. House at 610 Waltham St. A demolition order requested by R. Phelan <br /> for this property. AS the property is a listed building a hearing will <br /> be held on Oct. 20, 1988, at 8:00 p.m. Property owner and abuttors <br /> [both sides of Waltham St. to Allen St. ] will be notified. Witthoft <br /> will call former chairman, Gubisch, for information on the procedure <br /> for advertising the hearing in the newspaper. Said abuttors must be <br /> notified at least seven days before hearing, i.e. , mailed before Oct. <br /> 8. <br /> j 7. East Lexington Historic District. Witthoft will ask Gubisch for <br /> materials on this project. <br /> 8. National Historic Register. Witthoft suggested two properties which <br /> might be candidates: (1) , the Ripley house, 52 Follen Hill Rd; and (2) <br /> an2i, example of William Rogers Greeley's work. Eight of his domestic <br /> structures are extant (one was recently demolished). A list is <br /> attached to these minutes. Witthoft will consult with an authority on <br /> procedures for listing a property. McKenna will obtain names of <br /> current owners as needed. <br /> 1 <br />
