THE LEXINGTON HISTORICAL COMMISSION <br /> Lexington, Massachusetts 02173 <br /> Meeting <br /> • <br /> Room G-15 November 17 , 1976 <br /> Lexington Town Office Building 7 : 30 PM <br /> Voting Members Present : Chair, Anne Grady; Sara Chase, Elizabeth <br /> Reinhardt <br /> Guests : None <br /> The meeting was called to order at 7 : 45 by Anne Grady, Chair. <br /> The response of the Massachusetts Historical Commission East Lexington <br /> to the local Commission' s proposal to nominate all or National <br /> a portion of the East Lexington Historic District to Register <br /> the National Register was discussed. MHC representative Nomination <br /> Joe Orfant, after reviewing the area and attending the <br /> November 3 slide, show on East Lexington declined to <br /> approve the nomination. Instead, he recommended that the <br /> East Lexington Railroad station, the Morell-Dana house and <br /> the Brown-Butterfield house be nominated as individual <br /> properties . <br /> The local commisAion is hesitant to make these <br /> separate nominations with. the exception of the railroad <br /> station. It was felt that the area represents a. unique <br /> collection of 1800-1875 buildings , with a high concentration. <br /> of 1830 vernacular houses, which ought to be treated as a <br /> whole . Therefore, the commission decided tip attempt a preview <br /> of the district through personal contacts at the national <br /> office to elicit an opinion on the suitability -of the 'district <br /> for nomination. <br /> Sara Chase will. write the nomination, Anne Grady <br /> will direct further deed research on the area and Elizabeth <br /> Reinhardt will organize the photographic presentation. . Much <br /> of the balance of the meeting was spent discussing which <br /> buildings ought to be included in the 'roposal T <br /> Anne Grady informed the commission that materials - Town Report <br /> for. the 7owa Report were due a,00n„ It was voted <br /> unanimously to include with the written statement <br /> three pictures depicting the work of the volunteers who <br /> help the commission as well as commission members if there <br /> is room in the report. <br />
