THE LEXINGTON HISTORICAL COMMISSION
Lexington, Massachusetts 02173
MEETING
Room G-15 April 12, 1976
Lexington Town Office Building 7 :30 P.M.
Voting Members. Present: Chairman Elizabeth Reinhardt, Anne Grady, Richard
Morehouse, Donna Brown.
Guests: Mr. Wilbur Jaquith from Historic Districts Com.
The meeting was called to order at 7 A0 P.M. The Chairman announced the
National meeting of Historic. Trust which will be held in Philadelphia, NATIONAL
October 27-31. We will send for more information in anticipation of one MEETING
or more of ours attending.
Donna Brown was asked to contact the Comptrollers office to get an acc-
ounting of how much the Commission has spent to date and report that ACCOUNTING
amount to the Chairman.
Mrs. Reinhardt announced that the Lexington Historical Commission has
a Membership card in the. National Trust if anyone is interested in using MEMBERSHIP
it. CARD
The Commission has recieved the booklet put out by the Ipswich Historical
Group entitled Something to Preserve. It will be circulated amoung the BOOKLET
members.
A discussion was held concerning the Bowman Tavern. The present owner is
Mrs. Butaro but we have not been successful in reaching her to see if we
can visit the inside. It is believed this building is dated 1767. William
Diamond lived here. It is, believed that the building was taken down in BOWMAN
1860 and rebuilt about 1900. Talk was that it was once a gambling and TAVERN
"House of Ill Repute".
We will send a message to all local organizations in regard to their
interest in forming an organization for Preservation. Perhaps some kind PRESERVATION
if Heritage Trust Organization could be established if enough interest
can be established.
We considered the matter of accessing Historical properties. We should
check with the local Board on this matter in order to be able to advise
owners as to what if any difference improvements would make in their Accessment
accessment. Mr. Morehouse will contact Mr. Irwin.
