Semiquincentennial Commission (Lex250) <br />October 19, 2022 Meeting Minutes <br />Pursuant to notice duly filed with the Town Clerk, the Semiquincentennial Commission <br />(Lex250) convened in a meeting via Zoom video conference on Thursday, October 19, 2022 at <br />4:04 pm as allowed by legislation (S.2475) extending the suspension of certain provisions of the <br />Massachusetts Open Meeting Law. <br />Present:Mona Roy (Community Representative), Jillian Tung (Music & Arts Representative), <br />Barry Cunha (Business Representative), Suzie Barry (Select Board Member), Julie O’Leary <br />(Civic Representative), Cerise Jalelian (Town Celebrations Committee Representative) Paul <br />O’Shaughnessy (Historical Organization Representative) <br />Guests: Mike McKenna from Shields PR Consulting Firm, Jane Hundley (LPS Grade 6-8 Social <br />Studies Department Head) <br />The meeting was called to order at 4:04 pm by Ms. Barry. <br />1.Shields presentation and discussion led by Mike McKenna <br />a.Discussed approaches that other towns and tourism organizations used in their <br />websites to promote their locations and draw visitors <br />b.Provided recommendations for Lexington <br />i.Goal should be to have stunning, vivid visuals with well-organized, <br />uncluttered content, beautiful graphic design and great typography <br />ii.Consider target demographics <br />iii.The visuals and content could be changed over the course of the year <br />iv.Discussed possible ways to organize the site <br />1.Sections for events, dining, kids/families, places to stay <br />2.Possibilities for accepting donations <br />3.Encourage participation with social media <br />v.The website could remain in use after the 250th anniversary <br />vi.The site could incorporate an interactive calendar of events <br />vii.Adjunctive marketing would expand the reach of the site <br />c.Commission members asked questions and participated in discussion about site <br />possibilities <br />d.Members underscored the importance of having a site that is inclusive and <br />accessible <br />2.Special Town Meeting Warrant article update <br />a.Article 8 <br />b.Town meeting is scheduled for November 1st, 2nd, 3rd; the town moderator may <br />give us a scheduled time slot on the 1st <br />c.Mr. McKenna plans to be present at Town Meeting <br />d.Ms. Barry discussed preparations for the presentation and underscored that we <br />should continue to reach out to other town organizations for support and <br />endorsements
