LEXINGTON DESIGN ADVISORY COMMITTEE
Minutes of Meeting of January 8, 2020

A meeting of the Design Advisory Committee (DAC) was held on January 8, 2020 at 7:30 pm in the Hudson Room located on
the second floor of Cary Memorial Hall, Lexington, MA.

Members/Liaisons Present: Tim Lee, Bruce Creager, Steve Vincent, Alenka Slezak, Brigitte Steines, Caroline Fitzgerald, Suzie
Barry (SB liaison)

Members/Liaisons Absent: Bob Creech (PB Liaison), Bahig Kaldas, Richard Friedson

Approvals: none

The Committee meeting reviewed and acted on the following item(s):

1. Sign application for 311 Marrett Road - The proposed sign and exterior lighting was reviewed
and approved by the Committee with the following recommendations:

• Reduce the height of the sign to allow ample room for light fixture and align, if possible, with sign height of
adjacent signs.
• Select a hooded down light fixture that is in scale with sign and building façade. Lights can run full length of
building façade or be placed just over sign. Lights should not block sign and provide even light distribution
so sign can be clearly read. No more than four individual fixtures on the building. No strip fluorescent fixture
is to be used.

Exhibits presented at our meeting:
- Overall sign elevation photo simulation image of sign on building with sign dimensions
- Image of building as it relates to adjacent signs
- Image example of light style
- Zoning Board of Appeals application

2. Sign application for 4 Hartwell Place – Committee reviewed the sign and approved the design as presented
with the following recommendations:

• It was suggested that the sign be placed lower on the building façade, possibly aligning the ‘K’ with the window
mullion or frame closets to the door.

Exhibits presented at our meeting:
- Overall sign elevation photo simulation image of sign on building
- Image of site location and sign location on the building
- Sign design image with materials, colors and dimensions
- Zoning Board of Appeals application

Other Business:

Our Select Board Liaison Suzie Barry provided an update on the design for the new Police Headquarters and the Westview
Cemetery maintenance building and the DAC’s role in the design review process moving forward.

• The design for the Police headquarters is on hold as they revisit the buildings location and cost
• The Westview Cemetery building design has been approved but the Select Board would like the DAC to review
the design – presentation will be arranged for our next meeting
• The Select Board would like to re-establish our role in the design process on all future projects per our charge

Meeting was adjourned

Respectfully submitted Timothy Lee

Cc: Suzie Barry, Select Board Liaison
Bob Creech, Planning Board Liaison
