LEXINGTON DESIGN ADVISORY COMMITTEE
December 12, 2006

To:
Board of Appeals

Re:
180-201 Spring Street
Freestanding Sign (Stride Rite)

At its regular meeting on December 5, 2006, the DAC reviewed an application for
modifications to an existing freestanding sign at 180-201 Spring Street. The DAC found
the changes to be minor in nature and complimentary to the existing stone wall and
overall legibility of the sign.

A member of the DAC raised an objection to this proposal because as he understood it
the original sign wall approved without regrading the landscape. It was claimed that the
site was regraded several feet to increase the overall height and impact of the sign,
without DAC approval. It would be helpful if the applicant could explain the process by
which the previous sign was approved so that proper consideration may be given by the
Board of Appeals for this proposed change.

The DAC recommends this project be approved, with the above-mentioned comments.

Respectfully submitted,
Colin P. Smith AIA, Chairman
Lexington Design Advisory Committee

Cc: Board of Appeals
Board of Selectmen
