LEXINGTON DESIGN ADVISORY COMMITTEE
Meeting Minutes:
July 11, 2006

Present:
Colin Smith (Chair), Bruce Creager, John Frey, Ginna Johnson, Timothy Lee, Bahig
Kaldas

Scribe:
Colin Smith

Call to Order:
The Meeting was called to Order at 7:30PM.

Approvals:
Minutes of the June 6th meeting were approved with minor corrections.

Presentations/Review:

31 Massachusetts Ave. (Car Wash)
o
A proposal for the expansion of the car wash facility at 31 Massachusetts Ave. was
reviewed. The existing drive-thru car wash structure is to remain and self-serve bays
are being installed to increase service. While the proposed site plan appears to
maximize use of the site it ignores the 10’ buffer requirement along Massachusetts
Ave. In addition, circulation requires further study as turning radii and parking
spaces look tight. It was suggested that the plan be reworked to a less dense proposal
and zoning by-laws are adhered to. There was brief discussion about the overall look
and materials to be used on the project (gabled roof elements, cupola less important,
brick, metal, etc…) but that this should be reviewed after the site plan is reworked
and the building forms are better established.

Other Business:

Hayden Park Memorial Bench
o
The DAC reviewed a proposal for a memorial bench located at the southern end of
the running track at Hayden Field. There was a general feeling that the bench should
be located where it would get more use, such as near the parking lot. Ultimately the
Recreation Department will need to review and approve the location of the bench as
there are track and field regulations that will dictate placement.

NStar Parking Lot
o
The DPW preliminary parking plan was reviewed and it was determined that the stall
sizes were insufficient and grading needed further study. The DAC recommended
planters be enlarged and additional trees provided. A sketch plan was drawn up and
forwarded to DPW for consideration.

Adjournment:
The meeting was adjourned at approximately 9:00PM.

Next Meeting:
Scheduled for Tuesday August 8 @ 7:30PM.

Cc:
Board of Selectmen
Wendy Manz, Planning Board Liaison
