2007 Minuteman Cane Award Committee Report
First Meeting- Monday, February 12, 2007 at 2 PM in Room 111
Second Meeting- Tuesday, April 3, 2007 at 2 PM in Room 111

February 12, 2007 Minutes-

Present were Dot Boggia, Sheldon Spector, Marie Hill, Don Graham and Beverly
Kelley. Absent were Dick Michelson, David Williams, Lodia Parilla and Shirley Stolz.
An article requesting nominations has been submitted to the Lexington Minuteman and
is also in the March issue of the Senior Center newsletter. Friday, March 30 at 4 PM is
the deadline for nominations. Nomination papers have been left at the Town Clerkâs
office, Theatre Pharmacy, the Minuteman and the Senior Center.
We next had a discussion about recruiting new members for this committee. (The
committee is supposed to have 11 members.) Lillian McArthur has been asked. Leo
McSweeney may be a possibility. If Dick Michelson is ready to step down, perhaps
either Eric or Jerry would like to become a member. Someone from the clergy? Two
other names which surfaced were Charlie Price and Francine Edwards.
Two of our honorary members are no longer with us. Neil Cronin passed away this past
year. Bill Wildes has moved to Florida. Dot will send a letter to Bill thanking him for
his years of service. Also, Larry Whipple has moved out of town so Dot will send him a
letter thanking him for 20 years of service.
David Williams has said he will write the proclamation. Dot will look into the
engraving of the cane. Chris Venier will still supply the cane.
The reception for the recipient will be in early May.
Jackie Ward came in second and Dan Fenn came in third in 2006.

April 3, 2007 Minutes-

Present were ALL eleven current committee members- Dot Boggia, Don Graham,
Marie Hill, Beverly Kelley, Lillian McArthur, Dick Michelson, Lodia Parilla, Charlie
Price, Sheldon Spector, Shirley Stolz and David Williams.
The minutes of the February 12, 2007 meeting were accepted as written. Dot
welcomed our two new members Lillian McArthur and Charlie Price.
David Williams will get the cane engraved. It was generally agreed that it is preferable
to engrave the cane itself, not hang a tag on it. David will try to have this done.
It was also agreed that if a member misses three consecutive committee meetings (not
including the party) without valid excuses, that member will be asked to resign.
The nominees for this year were the two runners-up from 2006, Dan Fenn and Jackie
Ward, plus 3 new nominees- Eugene Beauchemin, Julian Bussgang and Arthur Katz.
The committee discussed each nominee in turn and after much discussion, there was a
paper vote taken. Sheldon and Charlie took the ballots out of the room and did the count.
The 2007 winner of the cane was Arthur Katz. David and Beverly will figure out how to
stnd
tell him. Jackie Ward was 1 runner up and Dan Fenn was 2 runner-up.
The party will be held on Wednesday, May 2, 2007 at 2 PM at the Senior Center.

Respectfully Submitted on April 3, 2007 by Beverly Kelley, Secretary
