The Appropriation Committee held a meeting, at 7:30 P.M., on Mon-
<br /> day, January 31, 1972, in room 111, Town Office Building, Lexing-
<br /> ton. Present were Edward F. Furash, Chairman, Jack L. Mitchell,
<br /> Vice Chairman, Elizabeth M. Flynn, Sec-retary, J. H. Blaisdell,
<br /> Levi G. Burnell, Howard L. Levingston, H. B. Moore, Donald B.
<br /> White and Richard M. Perry, Comptroller.
<br /> Mrs . F eakes, of the LWV, Mrs . S . Byrnes, a TM member and Mrs . C .
<br /> Sanderson observed.
<br /> Chairman Furash scheduled the meetings for the following weeks,
<br /> prior to the Committee' s Report going to press.
<br /> Member Flynn was appointed, to represent the Committee, on the
<br /> Selectmen's Land Acquisition Committee.
<br /> The Chairman read a letter from F. Michelman, a TM, with respect to
<br /> scattered site housing. Mr. Michelman will be invited to meet with
<br /> the Committee . -
<br /> A letter (copy) was read by the Chairman. This was a letter from
<br /> V . Page, School Committee member, to D. Legro, Town Counsel, re-
<br /> questing a ruling on the legality of "the picking up' of sick leave,
<br /> from previous teaching assignments in other Towns , for new teachers .
<br /> After discussion, it was agreed that $30,000. could be cut from General
<br /> Government expense budgets . An overall increase of 5% would be -ac-
<br /> ceptable, including the x:50,000. requested for highway maintenance,
<br /> which is in Article #40. The 850,000. must be included in the 5% —
<br /> increase, or the general increase would be from 7% to 8.3%.
<br /> The Selectmen will be queried with respect to line item !}05,
<br /> Acct. #1050, Dues and Membership. Is $1,850. necessary in their
<br /> request?
<br /> Upon motion duly made and seconded, it was VOTED, with respect
<br /> to Acct . #7550, Library expenses, to request the Library represen-
<br /> tatives to revise their budget to reflect only a 5% increase .
<br /> A projected Tax Rate of 867.80, at this time, does not reflect the
<br /> anticipated $30,000. to 40,000. reduction in Expenses from the
<br /> Selectmen. A ` 68.00, T .R., could be possible .
<br /> The next meeting night is scheduled on Wednesday, February 2, 1972,
<br /> at 7:30 P.M.
<br /> The meeting was adjourned at 10:20 P.M.
