Minutes of meeting held on March 1, 1971 - page 2 <br /> NEGOTIATIONS: continued <br /> have approved the hiring of two new men for the depart- -� <br /> ment . The Town Manager feels that step increases plus <br /> 2% can be negotiated. For merit increases, perhaps 19 <br /> out of 54 men would qualify. <br /> PD - The Department is using the merit increase concept . They <br /> _._. favor 4 days on and 2 days off rather than the present <br /> work schedule . This would result in a 6% reduction in <br /> the work week. They are requesting False Arrest insurance. <br /> The 1971 cost to the Town would be @ $1,700 for 45 men. <br /> The Selectmen have approved 2 new men for the force. It <br /> looks like a 5% increase and a 6% reduction in the work <br /> week. <br /> School - Still under negotiation-might not be settled by Town <br /> Meeting. There could be a request for 4% plus a 5% <br /> cost of living. <br /> Meeting with the Selectmen was closed at 10:00 P.T.T. <br /> The next meeting night is scheduled for Monday, March 8, 1971 <br /> The meeting was adjourned at 10:10 P.M. <br /> Respectfully submitted, <br /> )2/. — <br /> Elizabeth M. Flyn' 'v <br /> Secretary <br /> The Appropriation Committee held a meeting at 7:30 P.M. , on Monday, <br /> March 8, 1971, in the office of the Comptroller, Eastabrook Hall, <br /> Lexington. Present were Edward E. Furash, Chairman, Jack L. Mitchell, <br /> Vice Chariman, Elizabeth M. Flynn, Secretary, Arthur T. Bernier, J. H. <br /> Blaisdell, Levi G. Burnell, Howard L. Levingston, H. B. Moore, Richard <br /> M. Perry, Comptroller and Donald B. White. <br /> Chairman Furash read a letter from the Library Trustees regarding <br /> their desire to have their Personal Service Budget restored to it' s <br /> original sum request of $226,982. After discussion, upon Motion <br /> duly made and seconded, it was VOTED to adjust Acct. #7500 from it' s <br /> present total of $219,969. to X226,982. <br /> The Chairman discussed with the Committee methods of action on the <br /> Town Meeting floor with respect to the School budgets . He suggested <br /> the following: <br /> 1. Move to cut the Expense and Personal Service budgets by <br /> a substantial amount. Justification would be made by — <br /> a series of examples as to where cuts could be made . <br />
