<br /> The Appropriation Committee held a meeting/on Thursday, February 11,
<br /> 1971, in the office of the Comptroller, Estabrook Hall , Lexington.
<br /> Present were Edward E . Furash, Chairman, Jack L. Mitchell, Vice Chair-
<br /> _ man, Elizabeth M. Flynn, Secretary, Arthur T. Bernier, J. H. Blais-
<br /> dell, Levi G. Burnell, Howard L. Levingston, Richard M. Perry, Comp-
<br /> troller and Donald B. White .
<br /> Meeting was held with members of the School CommittecRobert Farwell,
<br /> Chairman, Richard Eaton, Jack Maguire and Vernon Page and Superinten-
<br /> dent of School: Rudollh Fobert .
<br /> Chairman Furash reviewed his Committee' s position that $100,000.
<br /> could be cut from the School Expense budget and that 10 people or ap-
<br /> proximtately ; 40,000. could be cut from the Personal Service budget.
<br /> The pupil-teacher ratio has dropped and a cut of 10 people is not un-
<br /> realistic . In the expense budget special programs and new programs
<br /> L� could be eliminated.

<br /> Chairman Farwell explained salary budgets are still under negotiation
<br /> and could not be fully discussed, at this time . Chairman Furash
<br /> stated that any increases should be covered by the reduced budget since
<br /> if an increase is granted there will be an 11°9 increase, butif they
<br /> hold the line in negotiations a 3 increase will be made. He also
<br /> requested that a new budget, reflecting the reductions, be submitted
<br /> to his Committee . The School representatives retired from the
<br /> meeting at 10:30 P.M.
<br /> Discussion was held as to the method of treating possible raises in
<br /> the Police and Fire Departments, since thesd two budgets are still
<br /> in negotiation in collective bargaining.
<br /> The next meeting gigat is scheduled for Saturday, February 13, 1971.
<br /> The meeting was adjourned at 11:15 P.M.

<br /> could be $63.70 rather than the 1970 rate of $65.
