{ <br /> 67 <br /> The Appropriation Committee held a meeting at 7:30 P.M., on Monday, <br /> February 8, 1971, in the office of the Comptroller, Lstabrook Hall, <br /> Lexington. Present were Edward E. Furash, Chairman, Jack L. Mitchell, <br /> Vice Chairman, Elizabeth M. Flynn, Secretary, Arthur T. Bernier, J. H. <br /> Blaisdell, Levi G. Burnell, Howard L. Levingston, H. Bigelow Moore, <br /> Richard M. Perry, Comptroller, and Donald B. White . <br /> Member Bernier reported on his meeting with the Library Trustees. <br /> Upon motions duly made and seconded, it was VOTED that the Committee <br /> hold firm that all Departments keep to their 1970 budgets and that <br /> no new personnel be added unless they can be absorbed in to the 1970 <br /> Personal Service budget amounts. <br /> `"pith respect to the Library study it was agreed that the $5500. re- <br /> quested for this could come out of their State Aid or, if they wished, <br /> have it Town voted. <br /> Meeting was held at 8:30 P.M. with Members and Associate Members of <br /> the Conservation Commission. Chairman Brown of the Commission ex- <br /> plained their Warrant Articles, as follows: <br /> Art. #60 - Conservation fund - gg5,000. - amount requested is needed <br /> Art. #61 - Tittlebaum land - Concord Avenue - @15 acres - S68,000. <br /> Art. #62 - Ballou land - Concord Avenue - @ 10 acres - $32,000. <br /> Art . #63 - Cooke land - Mass . Avenue - @ 72,000. sq. ft. - 0,000. <br /> All figures include fees for appraisals . <br /> In response to an inquiry as to the Commission' s position on the pur- <br /> chase of the Ashley-Steeves property near the proposed Worthen Road, <br /> for general use and conservation, Chairman Brown answered that this <br /> was in the hands of the Selectmen. Chairman Furash explained that a <br /> majority of Appropriations was opposed to any land purchases in 1971. <br /> The Conservation Commission retired et 9:30 P.M. <br /> Members Mitchell and White reported on their discussions with members <br /> of the School Committee . They felt that 0100,000. could easily be re- <br /> duced from the base, that 10 more in personnel could be cut and that <br /> salary expenses could be taken, with increases, out of the cut budget. <br /> The 114, increase of last year for teachers would not be even considered <br /> as allowable for this year. <br /> It was agreed that approximately $140,000. should be cut from the total <br /> budgets submitted for this year. <br /> The nea, meeting night is scheduled for Tuesday, February 9, 1971. <br /> The meeting was adjourned et 11:20 P.M. <br /> Respectfully submitted, <br /> G . 7 �J� � <br /> Elizabeth M.
