The Appropriation Committee held a meeting at 8:00 P.M. , on Monday, <br /> January 18, 1971, in the office of the Comptroller, Estabrook Hall, <br /> Lexington. Present were Edward E. Furash, Chairman, Jack L. Mitchell, <br /> Vice Chairman, Elizabeth M. Flynn, Secretary, J. H. Blaisdell, <br /> Levi G. Burnell, Howard L. Levingston, Richard M. Perry, Comptroller, <br /> and Donald B . White. <br /> Meeting was held at 7:00 P.M., in Cary Hall, with representatives <br /> of major Town Boards. The meeting was sponsored by the Cary Library <br /> Trustees to gain a feeling of the Boards with respect to an addi- <br /> tion to the present library or relocation, with an entirely new <br /> building, on the Barnes or Central Block property. Questions were <br /> asked and at the close of the meeting Selectman Mabee suggested <br /> lf� that each Board appoint a representative to meet with the Library <br /> ,--i Trustees to discuss the plans in greater detail. <br /> The Committee adjourned to the Police Station for photographs to <br /> be included in the Town Report. <br /> Meeting was reconvened, at 8:00 P.M., in the office of the Comptroller. <br /> The 1971 budgets that have been received were reviewed, at this time , <br /> and a more in depth study will be made at a later time. <br /> Further discussion was held on the following: <br /> 1970 approved budget total $2,218,823. <br /> 1970 actual expenditures 2,156,327. <br /> 1971 budget requests ( as 2,386,122. <br /> of this date ) <br /> The Chairman stated that of the 1971 requests approximately E <br /> $35,000. represents false savings and comparisons are inappropriate . <br /> He suggested that in Accounts #7800,8500 and 8550, Debt and Retire- <br /> ment but not Insurance, savings could be made, since of the 1970 <br /> approved budget of $607,296 only $567,061 was ex ended. He f e s <br /> that $20 000. to $30 000. could be reduced rom the 1971 resuested <br /> 9? ?+9 . He w 11 contact own Manager O' onne 1 to suggest that <br /> the Committee would like to see a 5% cut made on submitted budgets . <br /> The next meeting night is scheduled for Monday, January 25, 1971, <br /> to meet with the Town Manager. <br /> The meeting was adjourned at 10:40 P.M. <br /> Respectfully submitted, <br /> Elizabeth M.
