Perry, Comptroller; D. White; L. <br /> Zehner; R. Souza <br /> Articles for June Town Meeting discussed. Recommendations of the <br /> Appropriation Committee to the Town Meeting decided. <br /> Art. 3 — Selectmen — Town Manager form of government. Although some <br /> changes may be necessary, committee approves in general. <br /> Voted to recommend favorable action. <br /> Art. 14— Development of parking area, High School. <br /> 1-4 Logan Clarke gave the following information: they have received <br /> 10 an estimate of $96,000 to completely develop the area in a permanent <br /> manner, and an estimate of $$30,000 to do it temporarily (lasting 7 to <br /> 8 years). The complete job would include removal of peat and putting <br /> in a bituminous concrete surface for 258 parking spaces, loaming and <br /> seeding area toward Waltham Street. Temporary job would not include <br /> peat removal, but would include scraping and leveling the area and <br /> making an oil surface, plus loaming and seeding the area toward <br /> Waltham Street. The other parking lots at the High School are oil <br /> surface with gravel. The committee wished to know how many spaces <br /> are needed, whether it is necessary to develop the whole area, and <br /> what it might cost to develop only the portion needed. <br /> Voted to recommend indefinite postponement with an explanation <br /> that information is not available on these points at the time of <br /> printing the report. <br /> Art. 19—Old Reservoir development for swimming. <br /> Eric Kula and Charles Gallagher gave information on the cost of <br /> development. Mr. Kula, representing citizens who petitioned to put <br /> this Article in the warrant, stated that the bioengineering survey <br /> for which $1000 was appropriated -two years ago had been completed <br /> and the report which was received by the Selectmen last fall indicated <br /> that the area was suitable for swimming and that a minimum amount of <br /> work would need to be done in order for it to be used. Mr. Gallagher <br /> stated that the following estimates were arrived at assuming that <br /> work could be dose by Town departments (Eng. and PWD). State law <br /> requires that there be toilet facilities available. They have assumed <br /> that a building 20'x 25' might cost $15 per square foot. <br /> $7,500 building (toilets and storage for park dept. ) <br /> 3,000 sand, washed concrete sand <br /> 800 bulldozer and brush removal at <br /> 980 140 ft. sewer, 6" line (connectin back of Bridge School) <br /> 2,800 water supply, 2", for bldg. and filling if necessary <br /> 7,000 Flow developer and electrical work <br /> 2,900 Fencing around beach area and into water, 2 openings <br /> 1,000 Pathway from beach to Bridge School area <br /> 1 000 Misc. equipment, safety equipment, lifeguard stands <br /> 26,980 <br /> Capacity would be a minimum of 300. Chlorination would probably not <br /> be necessary, but chlorine could be added after heavy rain if needed. <br /> Building — $7,500 is minimum amount estimated; maximum would be $17,000. <br /> They assume concrete block st.•ucture with steel grille at windows. <br /> $30,000 wall be requested. User fee is possibility. <br /> Operating cost — lifeguards $7,760 is estimate of Rec. Ctee. <br /> Voted to recommend indefinite postponement.
