1. 83. <br /> Meeting of the appropriation Committee, February 4, 1968, 7:30 p.m. <br /> Present: D. Grant, Acting Chairman; M. Bretscher, E. iurash; I . Gary; <br /> G. K.olovsonl R. Perry, �;omptroller; L.Lehner; R. Souza <br /> Town Clerk, Mary McDonough, came to discuss budgets under her control <br /> #1150 Town Clerk, Personal Services. 4 full—time people plus a <br /> part—time clerk are requested. With the Clerk—Treasurer's offices <br /> separate, 2 girls went to Comptroller's office to do billing (one of <br /> these did some clerk work) , 2 3/4 went to Treasurer's office, 311 <br /> remain in Clerk's office. Additional clerk is requested to do some <br /> catching up and filing and indexing which has been neglected. <br /> Microfilming, for which $1000 is requested, would be dole by outside <br /> firm. It would have to be done in the Clerk's office. Aliso McDonough <br /> doesn't know how many years records could be done for this amount of <br /> money, but would like to make a start on old birth and death records. <br /> Some space in the Clerk's office might be saved if these could be <br /> stored in the vault. A reader might be requested at a future date. <br /> #1950 — Town Clerk — "lections. code 120 which was in Selectmen's <br /> budget is now included in this budget. <br /> Clerk's Salary Mary McDonough is requesting $12,000 as clerk plus <br /> the required $750 as Registrar. She was getting $10,000 as clerk, <br /> $1,500 as Treasurer, and $450 as Registrar. <br /> Fire Department Budgets discussed with Fire Commissioners and Chief <br /> Personnel <br /> #4100 — 12 new men requested because approximately this number are <br /> needed to bring department to standard set by Commissioners and 12 <br /> rounds off all shifts. Five were requested last year and only one <br /> approved by Selectmen. It was anticipated that five more would be <br /> requested this year and next. They said that they now rely on <br /> mutual aid, extra duty and call men. <br /> Articles Al fire rescue truck and a fire alarm service truck will be <br /> requested. <br /> Rescue Truck — Replacement for a 1952 vehicle for which they can't <br /> get replacement engine parts. Body is rusting and much work is <br /> needed. This truck responds to all boxes as well as pumping out <br /> cellars. Anticipated cost is $20,000 maximum. <br /> Fire Alarm Service Truck — They are now using the utility truck <br /> for fire alarm service work. Every pole in town is being chan;ed;lcy <br /> aimaat every pole which has fire alarm wires must be taken care <br /> of individually. This truck would have an aerial budket which would <br /> save considerable time. Estimated cost is $12,000 — $15,000. <br /> Priority would be given to the Rescue truck. However savings made by <br /> having service truck would nay for truck in 2 years. <br /> A150 — Expense $3260 is the amount added for supplies for 12 <br /> men. <br /> Committee voted to approve budget of $468,302 for Personal Services, <br /> #4100. This includes 4 new men but no promotions. There are now <br /> 11 officers and 40 privates. Expense budget ; 150 was modified to <br /> exclude equipment for 3 men not approved. New total would be $47,062. <br /> Article 4 requests total $13,002,905, an increase of $1,479,000 over <br /> 1967 appropriation of $11,523,409. <br /> Meeting with Selectmen <br /> Public Works Articles — Requests to be made by Selectmen were read <br /> to the Committee but not discussed. <br /> Respectfully submitted, <br /> Ruth F.
