3 1 9" APPROPRIATION COMMITTEE DATE: January 9, 1978 TIME: 7:30 P.M. PLACE: Town Office Bldg. Room 111 PRESENT: Donald White , Chairman, George Silverman, Vice Chairman, Richard M. Perry, Secretary, John Blaisdell, Martin Gilman, William Dailey I . RECREATION: The following requests were presented by the Recreation Committee to the Appropriation Committee: a. Tennis Courts Cost: $14,770 -- $3,400 left from last year reducing cost. Revenue Raised: $7,400 in user fees. Present lights are most inadequate - new lighting would increase user fees. b. Bike Paths Area: 7 miles Cost: $99,843.50 -- $25,000 to be raised on the Tax Levy. Balance to be funded by the Commonwealth of Mass. Dept. of Transportation. If not done this year, there is a good chance that the funds will not be available another year. Chairman White asked if it would be possible to get a written authorization on this and it was stated by the Recreation Chairman that this will be in hopefully by Town Meeting. Note : Vice Chairman Silverman asked the Committee if they anticipated any problem with horses? Answering his own question - Mr. Silverman stated "as long as they are not on bicycles: " c. Pool Complex Cost: $690,000 - requesting $50,000 for plans and specs. Pre- sent pool built in 1929; filters old; has been patched; bath- house is in bad condition and does not meet sanitary code ; to renovate present pool would cost $265,000-275,000. Revenue : $20, 000 in user fees.
