Mrs. Kutchin attended a meeting with Mr. Hilton and a representative from 3-M showing the procedure in which a magnetic tape would be inserted in the binding of a book -- if someone goes through the turnstyle without checking out a book an alarm would go off. "This system is call 'The Spartin System'" . b. Wellesley and Bookline Libraries now have this program installed and Simons College is in the process of installing such. c . It was noted that the young children are not the ones stealing books but the adults are: This seems to be a moral issue too: d. The entire project is to be given more study and Brookline will be invited in to discuss their successes and/or problems with the system. e . The cost would be $17,000-$18 ,000 for installation -- $500-600 a year for maintenance contract, 100 a tape for new tapes. Over 20 years cost would be $60,000. f. 1200 a year stolen. g. Chairman Furash asked Mrs. Kutchin to keep in touch with Mr. Hilton as to the progress of the project. I want to make sure that this is not slipped into the Warrant. h. Mr. White stated that he felt this was no way to solve the existing problem. II . ELEVATOR CONTRACTS Martin Gilman has been in touch with John McSweeney, Director of Public Works and was informed that he is waiting on Messrs. Hilton and McInness. III . SCHEDULE OF MEETINGS 1.
