Mrs. Kutchin attended a meeting with Mr. Hilton and a <br /> representative from 3-M showing the procedure in which <br /> a magnetic tape would be inserted in the binding of a <br /> book -- if someone goes through the turnstyle without <br /> checking out a book an alarm would go off. "This system <br /> is call 'The Spartin System'" . <br /> b. Wellesley and Bookline Libraries now have this program <br /> installed and Simons College is in the process of installing <br /> such. <br /> c . It was noted that the young children are not the ones <br /> stealing books but the adults are: This seems to be a <br /> moral issue too: <br /> d. The entire project is to be given more study and Brookline <br /> will be invited in to discuss their successes and/or <br /> problems with the system. <br /> e . The cost would be $17,000-$18 ,000 for installation -- <br /> $500-600 a year for maintenance contract, 100 a tape for <br /> new tapes. Over 20 years cost would be $60,000. <br /> f. 1200 a year stolen. <br /> g. Chairman Furash asked Mrs. Kutchin to keep in touch with <br /> Mr. Hilton as to the progress of the project. I want to <br /> make sure that this is not slipped into the Warrant. <br /> h. Mr. White stated that he felt this was no way to solve <br /> the existing problem. <br /> II . ELEVATOR CONTRACTS <br /> Martin Gilman has been in touch with John McSweeney, Director <br /> of Public Works and was informed that he is waiting on Messrs. <br /> Hilton and McInness. <br /> III . SCHEDULE OF MEETINGS <br /> 1. October 4, 1976 - Planning Board <br /> John Blaisdell and Don White to attend and report back. <br /> 2. October 12, 1976 - Conservation <br /> Recreation <br /> 3. October 13, 1976 - School Committee (Informal Meeting) <br /> 4. October 18, 1976 - Board of Selectmen <br />
