SCHOOL COMMITTEE <br /> Present: J. Berthold G. Wadsworth <br /> P. Swanson R. Rothberg <br /> J. Davidson R. Fobert <br /> "r. White made the opening statement to the Committee by <br /> stating that a decrease in students must reflect a decrease <br /> in budget. The following points were made : <br /> a. level of staffing - are we getting <br /> the most from our staff? <br /> b. building program - 22 million? <br /> c. improving staff ratios - reducing staff <br /> as enrollment drops . <br /> d. status of budget? <br /> e . level of specialists must be looked at closely <br /> Mrs . Berchold stated. <br /> f. Chairman Furash stressed the need for closer <br /> ties with the Personnel Board. <br /> g. Mr. White asked the School Committee if the <br /> Appropriation Committee could be informed of <br /> budget figures prior to publication. <br /> h. Chairman Furash stated that he would like to see <br /> the budget presented at Town Meeting in two parts : <br /> 1-focus debate on Article IV, <br /> 2-results of Collective Bargaining <br /> II . Mr. Perry mentioned to both Committees his having an Article <br /> submitted allowing the transfer of funds out of E & D for a <br /> specific need. More data on this is to follow. <br /> III . POLICE <br /> Chief Corr stated that he is trying to keep abrease of <br /> Inflation: The following requests were made : <br /> a. Air conditioners for other marked cars - $400 <br /> a unit - $2800. <br /> b. Nothing in budget for new men. Eliminating the <br /> Air Conditioners the budget is up 10-11%. <br />
