APPROPRIATION COMMITTEE MEETING
MARCH 31, 2003, NATIONAL HERITAGE MUSEUM, 7:00 P.M.
Present:
D Brown, R Pawliczek, R Eurich, E Michelson, P Hamburger, K Dooks, S Spector, A
Nedzel, A Levine, J Ryan
Also Present: C Hornig, G Burnell, J Rosenberg, S Stolz,N Bhatia
• Discussed the proposed ADA improvements being planned for the central fire
station. Opportunity to finish the work while the outside of the building is being
done.
• Historic Districts Committee has not yet approved the design for the exterior
door.
• Questions rose as to how this project got to the top of a list. The Ennoblement
Committee has a prioritized list that dates back to the 1990's. The list needs to be
updated.
• C Hornig expressed concern over the validity of the cost estimate and the scope of
work. Questions about handicapped parking were also discussed.
• Olga Guttag made a brief presentation regarding the Skate Park(Article 16).
Requesting funding in the amount of$60,000. Not particular as to where the
funds come from. 0 Guttag feels that she cane solicit bids that will be lower than
projected and will be able to finish the project. Questions raised on process to be
followed in bidding the project. Labor being"donated"raises the question of
prevailing wages.
• Recreation Committee is apparently in support if the funds were to come from the
tax levy.
• BOS has projected where they feel the Recreation Fund will be in a few years
with commitment that are currently in place.
• Discussion of the Skate Park operation, insurance etc.
• BOS is apparently supporting Article 8 a. Sky worker for $100,000.
• BOS support Article 8 i. Landfill Closure in the amount of$450,000.
• BOS Apparently support Article 8 1., Town Building Envelope in the amount of
$260,000 including $50,000 for ADA improvements.
• Motion: Request that Town Meeting separate out Article 81. Town Building
Envelope from the rest of Article 8. AC and CEC need time to study request
before informing the Town Meeting. Unanimous.
Ac.03.31.2003
