APPROPRIATION COMMITTEE MEETING <br /> THURSDAY, JANUARY 9, 1997 <br /> COMPTROLLER'S OFFICE, 7:30 PM <br /> Present: P Lapointe, M Miley, R Borghesani, S Coit, R Colwell, I Mroczkowski, R Pawliczek, <br /> LPeck, JRyan <br /> Absent: R Leone <br /> * Distributed and discussed the pending collective bargaining agreement between the MMRVHS <br /> School Committee and the teachers at MMRVHS <br /> * General discussion of the contract. AC will express concerns to the MMRVHS School <br /> Committee through J Pagett Contract appears to call for an additional $ 780,000 on an <br /> $ 11,000,000 budget. Don Johnson, Town Manager of Acton represents management on the <br /> MMRVHS School Committee. Salaries should be compared with other vocational high <br /> schools not the teaching staff of the systems within the district <br /> * MOTION: made by R Borghesani that P Lapointe formally respond to the MMRVHS School <br /> Committee expressing concerns of the Lexington AC over the precedent being set and the <br /> extraordinary negative impact the settlement will have on municipal budgets in the future. <br /> UNANIMOUS <br /> * R Borghesani discussed the meeting he attended early today regarding the school capital needs. <br /> See handouts for information. Possible need for $ 10,000,000 additions to elementary schools, <br /> $ 15,000,000 renovations to elementary schools, $ 25,000,000 in the middle schools and an <br /> additional $ 20,000,000 at the high school. <br /> * P Lapointe established an sub committee to review and create a model of financing options <br /> available. Sub committee to meet Monday, January 13th at 7:30 am in the Comptroller's Office <br /> with J Ryan. ( SC, RP, RB, JR) and report to the AC at its next meeting. There will be a need <br /> to establish estimates as to the impact such a project will have on the school operating budget. <br /> * P Lapointe shared his discussion with M Battin regarding public support of candidates for <br /> office. Suggestion is not to do so in order to maintain impartiality. <br /> * Meeting schedule: Cancel January 23rd (Education Forum) <br /> Meetings to be held at 7:30 pm in Comptroller's Office on 1/22, 1/30, 2/6, 2/13, 2/27. <br /> * Motion to adjourn <br /> acj a9 <br />
