APPROPRIATION COMMITTEE MEETING
THURSDAY, MARCH 16, 1995
CLARKE MIDDLE SCHOOL, 6:00 PM
* Present: C Coughlin, R Borghesani, R Leone, M Miley, M Mairson, J Pagett,
R Neumeier, J Ryan
* Absent: P Lapointe, L Peck
* Caleb Warner of the Cable Advisory Committee addressed the AC re Article 19,
Internet Subscription and Purchase of Equipment. The Internet subscription has been
free for the past fifteen months through BBN. The list price for such a connection is
$ 40,000 per year. The use of the Internet has been low, approximately 1/2 of 1%.
The connection cost request is $ 10,900.
* C Warner then discussed the request for personnel costs to be shared by the Municipal
and School Departments. Additional people power will be required. This request is for
one part time employee at a cost of $ 20,000.
* C Warner discussed the remainder of the request for six additional work stations to be
utilized by citizens. Currently, the only citizen access is at the Cary Library. The
intention of this request is to place work stations at the library and town hall.
* C Warner stated that Article 19 is in no way connected with Article 18, the School
Equipment Purchase-New Technology. Article 19 is simply a method of supplementing
Article 18. The reason that the Cable Advisory Committee is making the request is that
it is a fall out of the LINK program.
* Barbara Lucas discussed the alternative fuel vehicles.
* The intent of the Article is to purchase seven (7) vehicles with no fiscal impact on the
Town until Fy 97 when the Town may incur some short term borrowing costs. It is
expected that the first bus would be on line in June 1997. The Town will only proceed
if it appears to be fiscally sound. If there is a fueling station in Lexington ( gas station
on Route 128) the door is left open to proceed.
* The proposal on the trolley service was discussed. The grant application is to be co-
sponsored by the Lex-Concord Cultural and Visitors Group and Minuteman National
Park. The anticipated costs and revenues were discussed (see handout).
* Motion to adjourn in order to attend TMMA meeting.
acmtmrl6
