APPROPRIATION COMMITTEE MEETING <br /> WEDNESDAY, APRIL 13, 1994 <br /> DIRECTOR'S ROOM, CARY HALL, 7:30 PM <br /> Present: G Burnell, C Coughlin, P Lapointe, J Pagett, S Nablo, R Souza, <br /> R Borgheasni, M Mairson, C Abbott, M O'Sullivan, J Ryan <br /> * MOTION to accept minutes of April 11, 1994 as amended <br /> PASSED: UNANIMOUS <br /> * C Coughlin made comments on the school choice issue to be voted on by the School <br /> Committee. School Committee is seeking a recommendation from the AC since the issue <br /> is financial. General discussion followed dealing with possible class size issues, <br /> reimbursement at $ 5,000 per student, once accepted into the system the student can elect <br /> to stay through the twelfth grade, transportation not paid for unless student's family meets <br /> certain income requirements, discussed the possibility of using existing space in order to <br /> generate funds. <br /> * MOTION to oppose school choice <br /> PASSED: MAJORITY (8/1) (PL) <br /> * General discussion of the AC's position on Article 4, specifically the pay raise issue and <br /> the funding source. <br /> * P Lapointe put forth the idea of reducing the raises to 1% with the funding to come from <br /> other previously approved appropriations. <br /> * G Burnell discussed possibility of using Article 34 to assist in solving the problem. <br /> His comments were not accepted very well!! <br /> * Sense of the Committee was as follows with the amounts indicating how much should be <br /> left in "free cash" and the percentage of increase to be granted. <br /> MM, 800k, 1% <br /> RS, 800k, 1% <br /> SN, 1,000k, 1% <br /> RB, 1,000k, 1% <br /> CC, 1,000k, I% <br /> PL, 1000k, 1% <br /> JP, 800K, 2% <br /> CA, 1,000k, 1% <br /> GB, 1,000k,0% <br /> * MOTION to adjourn to Town Meeting <br /> acmtap 13 <br />
