APPROPRIATION COMMITTEE MEETING <br /> JANUARY 4, 1993 <br /> Members Present: <br /> G. Burnell, S. Nablo, P. LaPointe, M.O'Sullivan, M. Mairson, J. Pagett, <br /> C. Coughlin, C. Abbott, R. Borghesani, R. Souza, J. Ryan <br /> Meeting called to order at 7:30 P.M. <br /> Chairman Burnell welcomed Paul La Pointe to the committee filling the unexpired <br /> term of John Curry <br /> J. Pagett discussed the proposed School budget as submitted by Superintendent <br /> Young. In order to remain status-quo the schools would need an additional 3% or <br /> $851,000. School enrollment is expected to rise by 4% (181 students) thereby <br /> necessitating an additional cost of $397,000. Special education costs are also <br /> of concern, primarily in the tutoring area. Capital is not being fully funded and <br /> there appears to be a cut of $95,000 in the maintenance request. Enrollment is <br /> expected to rise 11.6% over the next five years, <br /> C. Abbott resigned from the Superintendent's Advisory Committee for Metco in <br /> order to remain on the A.C. after having discussed her situation with Town <br /> Counsel. <br /> C Abbott discussed the financial aspects of the Metco program, identifying the <br /> costs associated with the program(transportation, administrative costs associated <br /> --� with the program and instructional reimbursements) <br /> AC attended the Selectmen' meeting to hear the Tows► Managers Fiscal 1994 budget <br /> overview. <br /> S. Nablo informed the AC of the formation of the ad-hoc committee which will be <br /> charged with attempting to assist in resolving the health insurance dilemma. <br /> G.Burnell will attend meeting on January 8, 1993 with the chairs of all the major <br /> boards. <br /> Next meeting scheduled for Monday, January 25, 1993 @ 7:30pm in the Comptroller <br /> Office. <br /> Motion to adjourn <br /> acjan4th <br />
