422
DATE: March 31, 1981
TIME: 7:45 P.M.
PLACE: Town Office Building, Comptroller's Office
PRESENT: G. Wadsworth, W. Dailey, R. Perry, E. Arlan, P. Marshall, M. Kutchin
R. Cataldo, G. Silverman.
OBSERVER: Marcia Williamson of Lexington Independent.
Met with School Committee - F. Michelman, P. Swanson, J. Gaudet, S. Shaw,
J. Beck, present.
School Administrators Jack Lawson, F. DiGiamarino, J. Maclnnes, R. Barnes
Questions presented by G. Wadsworth re reduction in enrollment:
1. What is in the future?
2. Will there be fewer teachers?
3. What about French in Elementary Grades?
4. Guidance Counselors cut?
Answers: 1. No additional school closings indicated in near future, but enrollment
projections have been very close and total could level out at about 4,000.
Administration Office could be moved to a school in next 3-4 years,
if space is available.
In regard to Special Needs, we are doing just about what the State
dictates, no more, no less.
2. Teacher/Pupil ratio, in Elementary 23-1 and Jr. High 15.5-1 will
be maintained and reflected in number of Teachers.
3. French (Elem. School) Program working fine and all indicators say
that program is worthwhile with pupils more advanced in later grades
than if they had started in Junior High or High School.
4. Number of Guidance Counselors has been reduced and will continue to
be looked at.
Respectfully submitted,
Richard M. Perry, Secretary
-Jr
