Lynn Hopkins, Chairman
Anne Eccles
Britta McCarthy
Paul Ross
Robert Warshawer
PUBLIC MEETING NOTICE
HISTORIC DISTRICT COMMISSION
AGENDA FOR JOINT MEETING BETWEEN LEXINGTON HISTORIC DISTRICT
COMMISSION AND LEXINGTON HISTORICAL COMMISSION
TUESDAY, November 17, 2015
Room 201, 201 Bedford Street
Samuel L. Hadley Building
7:00 PM
7:00 PM
Center Streetscape Project:
Discussion with Public Works Department regarding the proposed Center Streetscape project,
including the Battle Green portion
• The HDC and the HC actively listened and participated in the presentation on the Town
Center Streetscape and Battle Green Project. Presentation was given by Beta Group
Senior Management representatives Kelly Carr and Kien Ho, and Public Works
representatives John Livsey and David Pinsonneault.
• Sidewalks: The proposed combination of concrete and brick was well received by the
commissioners, there was no objections to the planting areas and infiltration basins along
the sidewalks.
- Commissioners cautioned encroachment issues with useable sidewalk area, and
appropriate materials be used.
• Gathering Areas: The concept of gathering areas along the avenue were generally
supported by the Commissioners.
- No objectives were made to the amount location of proposed gathering areas, but
questions of how they would be integrated with the Interpretative Opportunities were
raised by the Commissioners.
• Interpretative Opportunities: The Commissioners raised considerable concern regarding
the design and implementation of this concept.
- It was recommended that Beta Group should work in concert with the Lexington
Historical Society to best integrate an accurate and well placed presentation along the
avenue.
• Landscape Elements: The commissioners approved of the stone wall segments, but had
concern over field stone materials being used. Movable furniture segments were
supported. Planting beds and Infiltration basins were supported conditionally as long as
the sidewalk width is not substantially reduced.
- Due to the scope of these elements the HDC recommended that Beta and the Town
should return to the Commission with selections of the proposed materials for
review /approval.
