Minutes
Town Celebrations Committee
June 10, 2015
Cafe, 201 Bedford Street
Members present
Lorain Marquis and Rich McDonough, Co- Chairs; Suzanne Caton, Kim Coburn, Linda Dixon, Carol Flynn,
Karen Gaughan, Barbara Manfredi, Henry Murphy, Linda Levett, Sondra Lucente, Julie Miller, Wayne Miller,
Bill Mix, Henry Murphy, Geetha Padaki, Sandy Podgorski, Charlie Price, Bob Tracey
Members not present
Suzie Barry, Melanie Gause, Cerise Jalelian, Paul Jenkins, Tanya Morrisett, Dave Taylor, Sam Zales.
Business
• Lorain declared that a quorum was present.
• The minutes of May 20, 2015 were approved.
• This is our final meeting of the season; the next scheduled meeting is September 23, 2015.
• Planning for the Dance Around the World Program will continue over the summer.
• Lorain and Linda represented the committee at a public forum on Boston 2024 in Arlington.
• Lorain encouraged members to offer suggestions in response to the Selectmen's request for input for
their 2015 -16 planning.
• Linda Levitt reported on several meetings she has attended on town center beautification and
revitalization. High rents are driving small businesses out of the center district. The town is
considering extending their temporary moratorium on new banks and is exploring alternate parking
solutions. The committee discussed the idea of assigning committee members to serve as liaisons to
certain key town committees to keep the Celebrations Committee informed. This idea will be followed
up in the fall.
• Lorain announced that Kim Coburn and Cerise Jalelian have been moved from the subcommittee to the
full committee as two vacant positions have opened up. We will need to recruit several new members
to the subcommittee. Several possibilities were suggested.
• Bill Mix, Henry Murphy and Sandy Podgorski will form a subcommittee to review the logistics,
procedures and ceremony components of the Memorial Day activities and recommend suggestions for
improvement. They will rely heavily on feedback provided by Gresh Lattimore, Cpt (retired), USN,
who served as Narrator for the wreath laying ceremonies.
• Lorain and Rich ended the meeting with thanks and congratulations to the committee for their
dedication and hard work that resulted in a very successful event cycle.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:30 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Linda Dixon, Co- Secretary
