Greenways Corridor Committee
February 23, 2015
Training Room, Hadley DPW Building
Lexington, Massachusetts
Members Present: Kevin Breunig, Alex Dohan, Peggy Enders, Eileen Entin, Don
Grant, Bob Hausslein, Paul Knight, Keith Ohmart, Mike Tabaczynski
Other Attendees: none
Votes
: We made numerous changes to 2015-01-20 minutes, which will be edited
and voted on at the next meeting.
Reports/Updates
:
Bike/Walk/Bus Week will be May 9-17. GCC will provide a “silver sneaker” walk
from the Senior Center, and a Route C/D walk. Susan Bennett is interested in
working on an historical walk. Keith will coordinate Bike/Walkl/Bus and GCC.
Rick Abrams memorial events will be June 14. Susan Kenyon is coordinating.
The Boston Greenbelt Walk will be May 30, and will again utilize ACROSS routes
as it goes through Lexington. Kevin will be the GCC liaison.
The new ACROSS brochure will be in print by Patriots’ Day. All the new
information will be up on the Conservation website and the Conservation
Department will keep it up to date. The brochure will be sent home with school
families. An initial printing of at least 5000 will be made, and Susan Kenyon will
manage the supply and keep statistics on use. It will be revised as new routes
are added.
Keith will attend a March 10 meeting regarding the crossing at Lowell and
Westminster Streets, and draft a letter explaining GCC’s comments on
placement of crosswalk, using Mike’s graphic.
Current Business Review
:
MapMyRun has been a good resource for recording potential future routes. Mike
will work on getting those onto the Town map. MapGEO, the Town online
mapping program, has also been useful.
We reviewed the Criteria List of 6 elements and refined the definitions. These will
be used as we review proposed routes. As Jordan McCarron and Karen Mullins
work with the Conservation Stewards to plan the 2015 work list, it would be
helpful for them to know which routes we will be developing.
The Bikeway-to-Battle Road appears to be the most feasible. There is an
easement between Martingale and Fremont, thought a trail needs to be built.
Further south, the Cranberry Hill trail needs re-building and buckthorn clearing.
