Hudson Club, spoke about this year being the 150th
anniversary of the Civil War. Sam is a wealth of information about grave sites that are recognized
as being those of Lexington residents. Sam spoke about Dennis McMahon who was the last
Lexington casualty. He died at the Andersonville Confederate Prison Camp. There will be flags put
at Monroe cemetery for specific graves, including that of Thomas Cosgrove, a Medal of Honor
winner. Sam has a prepared script for Memorial Day.
* Glen Bassett will have the role of Narrator for the morning. Glen was introduced to the group and
his background was noted. 12 years active duty in the Marines, 18 years in the Reserves. He
retired in 2010 and his last command was at the Naval War College. Glen was also asked to read
the Gettysburg Address.
* Lorain went over some procedural concerns she had. She asked about introducing dignitaries. It
was felt that a Master of Ceremonies was needed. Rich McDonough will handle this job.
* Linda D. described the Memorial Day events and distributed the poster/handout made for the day.
These will be passed out at Discovery Day and left at various high frequented spots in town. 500
handouts were made. The poster will be at Gina Rada's table at Discovery Day. Gina is the new
Veteran's Services Officer for Lexington and Bedford.
* Sandy, Bill, Rich Linda L. Suzanne and Bob offered to distribute the handouts before Monday.
* Linda L. brought up that it might be advantageous to have a table at next year's Discovery Day.
We could provide the public with a list of our events and explain what we do.
* The group then discussed how to extend the ceremony at Westview. The group felt that the poem,
"In Flanders Field" was a good and appropriate addition.
* The meeting adjourned at 8:00. The next meeting will be on June 10th at 201 Bedford St. in the
Cafe.
Respectfully submitted by
Barbara Manfredi, Co-Secretary
