This was Aurio's second and last year to
participate on the committee, because he was the 2012 award recipient
Minutes of the two committee meetings in 2013 were reviewed. Minutes of the February 15 meeting
were approved as written; minutes of the March 21 meeting were approved as amended.
In other housekeeping, the committee reviewed our charge, positions, and members' contact
information to be submitted to the Town Manager's office and discussed numerous publications and
locations for distributing nomination forms and associated information in 2015. David Williams
moved that future nomination forms request a picture, if possible. Beverly Kelley seconded that
motion, and it was approved unanimously.
Beverly expressed her desire to remain on the committee but resign from the Secretary position.
Fellow members thanked her for her many years of service in this role, which she took on in 2004.
Ann Webster was elected to succeed Beverly by a unanimous vote.
Discussion of the nominees came next. Four nominations were received this year, for Shirley Lane,
Eileen McAlduff, Dick Michelson and Wilda Ward. The first and second runners -up from last year,
Phyllis Rand and E 0 Wilson, also were considered. Dick withdrew with appreciation, and the rest of
the committee unanimously voted to hold his nomination until next year. All members then
reviewed each remaining candidate and took a secret written vote. Shirley was the winner. Phyllis
and Wilda were first and second runners -up, respectively.
The cane will be awarded to Shirley on Patriots' Day, April 21. The reception for recipients of the
White Tricorn Hat, Minuteman Cane and Outstanding Youth awards will be 2 -4 pm on Sunday, April
27. This year it will be in the lobby of Cary Hall because the Depot was reserved for another function.
To prevent that from happening again, Dick has already reserved the Depot for the 2015 reception.
The Lions plan to provide a lot of food. The Friends of the COA will supply tablecloths and paper
goods. Our committee is responsible for cookies.
Marie and Beverly will notify Shirley about the award. David will work with Lynne Pease to prepare
the proclamation from the Selectmen. Marie will get the cane from Theatre Pharmacy engraved and
the Senior Center plaque updated; she also will coordinate with our reception partners and ask
Lexington Toyota about a car for Shirley in the parade.
The meeting was adjourned at 3:17 pm.
Respectfully submitted,
Ann Webster, Secretary
