Town of Lexington
Commission on Disability
Victoria Buckley, Chair
November 9, 2014
Thomas Wood
JA Wood Management LLC
594 Marrett Road – Suite 21
Lexington, MA 02421
Dear Mr. Wood,
At the November 6, 2014 meeting of the Commission on Disability, we
discussed the building known as Harrington Park, located at 394 Lowell Street,
Lexington. This building initially came to our attention when a variance was
requested for a second floor bathroom in one of the condominiums. As a
Commission, we remain concerned that the entire complex is not accessible. We
would like to see a plan of how to make the entire complex accessible in terms of
second floors and entryways.
You have indicated in your response to me that the Board of Trustees is
planning to discuss the accessibility at their annual meeting on May 5, 2015. The
Commission accepts this proposal provided that you summarize the results of that
discussion in a written plan submitted to us by June 1, 2015.
We also would like to know in writing by January 1, 2015, the intentions of
the new owners of the second floor condominium (RDTEU - Research,
Development & Tech. Employees Union) for usage of the space, especially
concerning whether they intend to run public meetings or public services there.
Thank your for your assistance in this matter.
Sincerely,
Victoria Buckley
Chair, Commission on Disability
Cc: Thomas Hopkins, Director, Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Department of Public
Safety, Architectural Access Board, One Ashburton Place, Room 1310, Boston, MA 02198-
1618
Frederick J.
