<br />Commission of Disability <br />Meeting Minutes November 6, 2014 <br />Members Present: <br />Victoria Buckley, Chair, Linda Vine, Deputy Town Manger and ADA Coordinator, Joe <br />Pato, Selectmen Liaison, Fred Lonardo, Building Commissioner, Sue Cusack, Michael <br />Martignetti; Len Morse-Fortier, Janet Perry, Francine Stieglitz <br />Guest: <br /> Maureen St.Hilaire, Member of the Arlington Commission <br />Approval of minutes and clarification of process <br />The June, September, and October minutes were approved. <br />Clarification of proposal for bylaw about brick sidewalks <br />We will be working with Norman Cohen to craft a warrant article to stop the use of bricks, <br />cobblestones and bricklike concrete pavers for new or reconstructed public walkways, <br />to ensure safe passage for citizens who have trouble traversing uneven surfaces. <br />Reaction of Selectmen about goal-setting letter <br />There is nothing to report at this time, but our efforts to discuss the use of brick in <br />Lexington presents another opportunity. <br />Update about Harrington Park, 394 Lowell Street, Lexington <br />At their annual board meeting in May, they will discuss the need for a long-range plan to <br />address the lack of accessibility in the building. We will be requesting written outcome of <br />this meeting by June 1, 2015. <br />Update on meeting with Commissions at Minuteman Senior Services <br />Minuteman Senior Services called a meeting to share information with the Commissions <br />in the eight towns that they serve. Victoria and Julie attended on our behalf. Their <br />services are generally federally funded and oriented to seniors and individuals with <br />disabilities. There was general consensus that more support needed to be afforded to <br />individuals with psychiatric disabilities. <br />th <br />Invitation to assist in planning the ADA’s 25 Anniversary Celebration on 7/22/15 <br />on Boston Common <br />Minuteman Senior Service wants to know if anyone would like to be on their panning <br />committee. No one volunteered but we are discussing the possibility of our own event <br />on Discovery Day in May. <br />Update on meeting with Hanscom Area Towns Committee on 10/23 <br />Concord, Lincoln, Lexington, and Bedford met to discuss the work of Commission on <br />Disability. Concord and Bedford do not currently have a commission, and were <br />interested in learning more about the advantages of forming a commission. After <br />hearing from Victoria they appear to be interested in moving forward to establish a <br />commission in their communities. <br />1 <br /> <br />
