<br /> Town of Lexington <br />Lexington Tree Committee Minutes <br />November 13, 2014 <br />A meeting of the Lexington Tree Committee was held on November 13, 2014, 7:30-9:30 a.m. at <br />the Samuel Hadley Public Services Building, Room 125. A quorum of five was present. <br />Members Present: Chris Filadoro, (Public Grounds Superintendent, Tree Warden), John Frey <br />(chair), Karen Longeteig, Jewel Kuljian, Gerry Paul, Anne Senning, Jim Wood <br />Members Absent: Selectman Liaison <br />Guests: Ginna Johnson, Planning Board Liaison <br />The meeting acted on the following items: <br />1. <br /> Anne Senning was appointed asscribe, and the minutes of the meeting of October 9, 2014, <br />were approved. <br />2. Tree Warden items: Bylaw tree removal applications and activity: <br />Chris Filadoro <br />provided a preliminary report which included a breakdown by site of trees removed, inches <br />removed and trees to be planted. He promised a ‘to date’ report of total bylaw visits, inches <br />removed and trees planted. Tree Committee discussed the fact that many trees are cut in new <br />construction projects and renovations that are outside the area covered by the tree bylaw. These <br />trees are not reflected in the monthly statistics. <br />3.Emerald ash borer activity <br /> Joel Custance, Forestry Crew Chief reported that the Emerald ash <br />borer activity has spread to the White Fringetree. <br />4. Plan for finishing the Town Tree Inventory: <br /> Chris Filadoro reported all the leads that he <br />had followed. The current plan is for Chris to re contact Dave Lefcourt, City Arborist, City of <br />Cambridge to consult with him about additional ideas. <br />5. Mapping for Spring Planting <br />Anne Senning described the mapping program made <br />available to tree committee members by Judy Baldasaro, GIS Database Administrator, which <br />uses a program she developed which works with Google Earth. <br />6. Nell Walker’s Commemorative Striped Maple Grove, Signage in Lincoln Park,Planting <br />Date November 10, Celebration Date December 12: <br />Planting: <br /> Matt Foti Landscape and Tree Service planted five Striped maples 11/10/14. Nell <br />Walker observed the installation with one of her sons. Chris Filadoro stated that he thought the <br />striped maples should have been planted further apart for long-term growth and ease of <br />maintenance. This engendered a general discussion of how far apart various species of trees need <br />to be planted in different settings. <br />Sign: <br />The wording of the sign was completed in conjunction with the Lincoln Park Committee. <br />The sign will be installed near the Striped Maple Grove in Lincoln Park in spring 2015. <br />Celebration: <br />Site; DPW cafeteria, Program; 12/12/14 2-4 p.m., digital photos of Nell’s <br />contributions to town, designated speakers, open mike, Lincoln Park maps, Food; Staff; Tree <br />Committee members as available, Publicity; Invitations, Lexington Minuteman, Colonial Times. <br /> <br />
