<br />Lexington Tree Committee <br />Town of Lexington, Massachusetts <br />201 Bedford Street, Samuel Hadley Public Services Building, Room 125 <br />Minutes of September 11, 2004 Meeting <br />Attendees: John Frey(Chairman), Jewel Kuljian, Anne Senning, Jim Wood, Ginna <br />Johnson(Liaison to the Tree Committee from the Planning Board). Absent: Karen <br />Longeteig, Gerry Paul and Chris Filadoro(attending a meeting of the Center <br />Committee). Jewel Kuljian appointed as scribe. <br />Note: Chris checked in before his meeting and inquired about a Commemorative Tree, <br />one of two Pear trees planted at the entrance of the football field at the high school. <br />This tree is to be in memory of Gary Ganley, a DPW worker recently deceased. The <br />Tree Committee prefers the traditional Commemorative tree tag for this memorial. Jane <br />Beswick will contact Chris and John. <br />1. Minutes of the August 14th meeting were reviewed and approved as amended. <br />2. By-law Tree removal applications and activity: Chris will email this to Tree <br />Committee members. <br />3. Progress on hiring Contractor to complete tree inventory - Chris will report status at <br />the next Tree Committee meeting. <br />4. Four remaining Tulip Trees. Chris will notify Tree Committee members of the <br />planting locations. One is reported to be at Hastings Park and one at Rindge Park. <br />5. Fall 2014 Tree Ordering for bare root trees. The discussion about planting Oaks in <br />the fall as well as documentation about the research of same will defer the planting of <br />Swamp White Oaks and Red Oaks until spring. A discussion ensued about being <br />mindful of attempting to plant native species. A motion to have Jim purchase from <br />Schichtels Nursery ten of the following 1 1/2 bare root trees: Tilia Americana <br />Legend/American Linden Legend, Gymnocladus DioicusEspresso/Kentucky Coffee <br />treeEspresso, and Syringa reticulataIvory Silk/Tree Lilac Ivory Silk with an <br />amendment to plant the Tree Lilacs in public areas if possible as an ornamental tree. <br />Vote 3 to 1 passed. Jim will also request the spring 2015 list for bare root species from <br />Schichtels and Baileys Nurseries. <br />6. The seven white spruce to be planted near the rear of 46 Brandon St. behind the <br />Toyota Dealership are due in to the vendor (Shemin) on September 17th. DPW will do <br />the planting. <br /> <br />
