<br />Lexington Human Rights Committee <br />Meeting Minutes <br />February 7, 2014 <br />Present: Linda Vine, Bonnie Brodner, Aidan Evelyn, Fuang-Ying Huang, and Sean <br />Osborne <br />Meeting at Parker Room – Town Hall, was called to order at 8:10AM <br />Welcome new committee member, Sean Osborne. <br />The group reviewed an application from another interested resident, who will be invited <br /> <br />to the March meeting. <br />Police report: LPD had a successful forum with Indian Americans in Lexington in <br />response to the break-ins in last November. Three Indian American families were broken <br />in and jewelries were stolen from them. Detective Evelyn indicated that the families <br />were not targeted because of their ethnicity, but their cultural custom of keeping jewelry <br />at home particularly during certain Indian holidays. There were 24 break-ins in <br />Lexington since last November, which was down from prior years. <br />There is a self-defense class for women by Lexington Recreation Department. Other <br />violence prevention programs include Mentors in Violence Prevention (MVP), where <br />men and women work together in preventing men’s violence against women; Men Can <br />Stop Rape mobilizes youth male to prevent men’s violence toward women; and Male <br /> <br />Athletes Against Violence by University of Maine. <br />Linda will invite Lexington Economic Development Director, Melisa Tintocalis to the <br />next meeting with the HRC meeting in March. Melissa Buttaro was very interested in <br />getting started with developing a program for local business to understand and better <br />serve the increasingly diversified town residents. <br />The next committee meetings time and location are to be determined. <br />The meeting adjourned at approximately 9:00 am. <br />
