<br /> Town of Lexington <br />Lexington Tree Committee Minutes <br />June 12, 2014 <br />A meeting of the Lexington Tree Committee was held on June 12, 2014, 7:30-9:30 a.m. at the <br />Samuel Hadley Public Services Building, Room 125. A quorum of six was present. <br />Members Present: Chris Filadoro, (Public Grounds Superintendent, Tree Warden), John Frey <br />(chair), Karen Longeteig, Gerry Paul, Anne Senning, Nell Walker, Jim Wood <br />Members Absent: Jewel Kuljian, Deborah Mauger (Selectman Liaison), <br />The meeting acted on the following items: <br />1. <br /> Anne Senning was appointed asscribe, and the minutes of the meeting of May 8, 2014, were <br />approved. <br />2. Tree Warden items: Bylaw tree removal applications and activity: <br />Chris Filadoro <br />provided a report (2/14/14 – 6/1/14) which included a breakdown by site of trees removed, <br />inches removed and trees to be planted. He also provided a ‘to date’ report of total bylaw visits, <br />inches removed and trees planted. <br />3. Plan for finishing the Town Tree Inventory: <br /> Chris Filadoro reported that he will hire a <br />contractor to finish the tree inventory using contacts made either through himself, Joel Custance, <br />Crew Chief or Karen Longeteig. <br /> 4a. Spring 2014 Planting: Review of Current Status, Changes for Fall 2014 <br />Shemin <br />delivered the 10 special order (replacements for dead trees, additional redbuds) trees today. <br />Changes for fall planting 2014: No additional trees will be ordered once the original order runs <br />out. John and Anne’s team will place the white Dig Safe stake rather than the short yellow or <br />orange stake. Chris will no longer be copied on routine planting emails. Jim will check the <br />required height of a Dig Safe stake. <br />4b. The issue of planting trees in condominium developments <br />The committee reiterated the standard of planting no further back than twenty feet from the right <br />. <br />of way on a public access road forcondominium developments as well as single dwellings <br />5. Katahdin Woods tree removal for solar panel installation: <br /> John Frey reported on a ZBA <br />hearing where the issue is the removal of 10 mature Pin oaks for the installation of new solar <br />panels. After discussion the committee voted to keep the 10 Pin oaks. John Frey and Jim Wood <br />will meet with the lawyer from Katahdin Woods to discuss facilitation and mediation. <br />6. Trees requested by Garett Burke 46 Brandon St to screen Toyota lights from bikeway: <br />Tree committee will assist DPW in landscaping design of Minuteman Bikeway (MBTA land) <br />behind Toyota to screen Toyota lighting from Brandon St. area. <br />7. Tree Data: <br /> Chris Filadoro provided 2013 tree planting maps and lists to Karen Longeteig. <br />She will transcribe lists to digital form and will use data to locate 300 Anniversary tags.
