Town of Lexington, MA <br />Lexington Tree Committee Minutes <br />October 24, 2013 <br />Special Tree Committee Minutes of October 24, 2013 <br />The Lexington Tree Committee meeting was held, on October 24, 2013 at the Samuel Hadley Public Services <br />Building, Room 125, at 9AM. Attending were John Frey, Chair, Gerry Paul, Karen Longetieg, and Jim Wood. <br />Members absent: Deborah Mauger(selectmen liaison), Chris Filadoro(Tree Warden), Nell Walker, Anne Senning, <br />Jewel Kuljian A quorum of 4 were present. <br />1. Jim Wood was appointed scribe. <br />2. Lexington Toyota tree screening recommendations were discussed to replace those trees cut down by <br />Lexington Toyota on /about July 11/12, 2013. Enclosure 1 is the recommendation developed by the <br />Committee. It is our intent to present this recommendation to the Zoning Board of Appeals. <br />3. Cumberland Farms - Redevelopment of the property is underway. A landscape plan dated April 5, 2013 <br />was presented to the ZBA on April 11, 2013. Unfortunately the last Landscape plan the Tree Committee <br />reviewed and approved was dated March 11, 2013. We will review the April 11, 2013, Decision of the <br />Board of Appeals re Property at 324 Marrett Road, Map 32, Lot 16 to see how we might proceed. <br />Respectfully submitted, <br />Jim Wood <br />Enclosure 1 to Special Tree Committee meeting of October 24, 2013, Tree Replacement at Lexington Toyota, 409 <br />Massachusetts Avenue, Lexington, MA 02420, recommendation to the Lexington Zoning Board of Appeals for <br />replacement of Screening Street Trees to achieve Special Permit Conditions. <br />1. Agree that the screening tree replacement consist of 10 trees, and all be along Massachusetts Avenue. <br />2. That the trees shall be replaced in the same positions. Because Lexington Toyota poured /placed chemicals in <br />the existing tree positions, the soil shall be remediated, in these same positions, to a depth of 2 feet and a <br />nominal front to back length of 4 feet, a width of 4 to 5 feet or the actual hole front to back length and width if <br />greater than these nominal dimensions. The front to back length shall be dimensioned from Massachusetts <br />right of way such that the front of the hole begins on Lexington Toyota Property. <br />3. Replacement trees will be contained in 3 planting strips. One on either side of the telephone pole to the left of <br />the dealership as viewed from the street. One tree will be planted on either side of the telephone pole as <br />before, in its own planting strip. The 3 rd planting strip shall be contiguous from the left side of the planting hole <br />to the right side of the 10 hole. <br />4. The planting strips shall be of "structural soil" and be 2 feet deep, 4 feet front to back, and a nominal 13 feet in <br />length either side of the telephone pole(strips 1 & 2) and strip 3 (a nominal 133 feet -or the distance from the <br />left edge of the 3 rd planting hole to 2 feet past the 10 planting hole). <br />5. Minimum tree caliper is to be 4 plus inches, and tree height to be a minimum of18 feet. <br />6. Recommended trees are 5 Honey Locust (Shademaster) and 5 Little Leaf Linden (Greenspire) Ground cover <br />along all three structural soil planting strips shall be a low spreading juniper, Juniperus conferta (blue pacific). <br />7. Hedgerow and shrubs /groundcover in front of main building (display) to be recommended by the Design <br />Advisory Committee, (DAC). <br />
